51 not out when England were in trouble. Everyone at Eppleton are really proud of him.

Yeah yeah, I'm sure you are pal. That's not relevant to the point though is it .

Trying to put your Eppleton bias aside for one moment though, can you explain to me what he did last season that deserves him a call up to the side?

Coggers has been involved with the England set up for a couple of winters now. More on potential than actual performance, but would love to see him have an injury free summer.

Well if he's in there on potential only, good for him, but I think he's very fortunate that Newell got him in there .

I'm interested as to why you care how his summer goes though - the only Notts player I've ever given a fuck about was Karl Turner ;).

I think the point that @brandon is making is correct. There is a very real conflict of interest

Does he deserve to play? I dunno, I don’t watch enough county stuff. It’s not inconceivable that he does and that’s half the point of the Lions, picking someone with potential but a bit raw

But even if he does, you can’t ignore the problems it creates. The perception that you move to a certain side and you get rewarded because of the other job of the coach

Because he is a product of the Durham youth cricket through his local club and then onto the Academy. Its the whole point of giving Durham first class status to give local lads a chance. Massive incentive to the next few age groups coming through to see local lads who have been through the system they are currently in and playing for England lions, it shows them that the system works. By far the best and most important part of Durham County Cricket Club is its Academy and supporting youth systems. Been saying the same thing on here for years.

What did he do last season to deserve a call-up?

Well, except for signing for Mike Newell's Nottinghamshire
Yea true, but the Lions is supposed to be a development thing and he was involved the previous year then got injured.

I've not got any particular axe to grind on this mind. Tho. I hope a Hetton lad does well as always.

100% agree with what you're saying regarding the system and how our Academy has produced time and time again.

It's just intriguing that the difference is stark in football terms - how often do folk wish a player well who has turned their back on the club that made them?

Rory Burns has scored over 1,000 runs in each of the last four seasons, averages higher than Rocky, we're crying out for top order batsmen and he cant even get on a Lions tour

Joke man.

Except Rocky has 1000 championship runs in his last 5 seasons and has only had one of those batting at the Oval and unlike Burns all of his knocks in the top division. Burns had 1000 championships runs in each of his last 3 seasons (he fell short in 2014) and has played two of his last 4 years in the second division. Not really a good comparison but I do agree absolutely that he should be with the Lions.

Paul has been involved in the England winter training camps for the last 3 years. They have picked players on potential since Duncan Fletcher’s time for both the full England side and the Lions. They look for players with the X factor (bowl 90 mph etc). Remember he built an Ashes winning side who were rated world no1.
He was therefore involved in the England set up before he joined Notts.

I was really disappointed that he left Durham but knowing all the facts why he did I fully support him in his decision.

Why has this seemingly ground to a halt? No updates anywhere and scorecard still showing the score from close yesterday. Same thing happened with the first one. Noticed it was on day 1. Decided to keep up to date with it day 2 but no updates. Didn't bother looking after that then saw it ended in a draw while checking something else. It's as if the FTECB don't want you to have any interest in the possible future of the Test side.

The Jamaica Observer seems to be the only place on the internet offering any information. The last report said the WIs were 43-2 at Lunch. England all out for 252, Coughlin top scoring with 60. Doesn't give the England wicket takers

Watching it live on Facebook. Windies Cricket site. No commentary though.

Enlighten us then.......

Duncan Fletcher - Remember he built an Ashes winning side who were rated world no1.

Duncan Fletcher's England were never World Number One #justsaying.
