IPL 2018

Can someone explain to me why it's going to take him so long to qualify? He has an English father so why does he have to wait for residency?

He will wait like. The West Indies administrators are a bunch of wankers - and they've treated him rotten, like so many others. He'll make a packet playing IPL and BBL for five years, then make a killing for England too, who pay best wages at test level. He won't think twice about the West Indies. National pride? They're not even a nation really are they? If it were Barbados, maybe he'd feel different, I don't know.

Because he's played for the Windies at U19 level so he has to qualify through residency. I'm convinced this isn't about playing for England, it's just a way of being a T20 mercenary without having to answer difficult questions about availability for the Windies.

Until they sort themselves out at administrative level it will continue for them.

If he is the player he could be by 2022 then he'll play for us, no doubt. We'll pick him. Whether he can be that explosive, pace-wise, for a prolonged career -particularly if he as serious about red ball cricket as he says - remains to be seen.

Is Tom Latham not in the auction? Can't be arsed to look at it as I couldn't give a monkeys.

Day 2 of the auction

Chris Jordan joins Hyderabad
Sam Billings to Chennai

Some big players remain unsold, including Chris Gayle, Ish Sodhi and Dale Steyn

Amla and Root going unsold is utterly baffling

I mean roots exclusion is cos of England playing tests before the end of ipl. But then why buy stokes, woakes,Ali and wood all for more money than roots base price.

I can't believe some of the English players who went unsold mind. Root and Rashid seems utterly ridiculous tbh. Two of the best players out of arguably the best limited overs side in the world, not being picked up at all? Well at least they'll either get some rest or an all to rare run out in the championship.

You could possibly pick a team out of English players not going that would challenge in the IPL (a bit of a stretch, I know).

Hales
Bairstow wk
Root
Morgan c
Malan
Patel
Willey
T Curran
Plunkett
Rashid
Mills

Looks pretty strong to me, especially the bowling.

Who gets the money?

Players get it I believe but I am sure the ECB have some sort of agreement that means players they have let play in the IPL must pay a percentage back to them - not sure exact terms but it's done by number of days there or something daft. Means that stokes will be paying the ECB despite having been banned from playing for them

 that rings true on so many levels
