Link just worked for me...Care to share it in order to beat the Times paywall?
What did you think of the article?I seem to remember much of the same after the last Ashes failure - yet lessons weren't learn in the selection before this one.
Rinse and repeat unfortunately.
Plus wasn't Shine chased when he was originally England bowling coach about ten years ago?
What did you think of the article?
Agree. It was interesting but it read a bit like Kevin Shine with the ECB wanting to get some positive spin after all the negative and stories about how promising bowlers have gone to Loughborough and gone backwards, e.g. Finn. Although having said that Finn's problems happened while ago and maybe the set-up has changed but the article didn't may that clear and in fact refer to anything negative as I recall it.What do you want me to say?
It wasn't exactly cutting edge was it? We all know our bowlers in Australia weren't quick enough but we also know it's because the selectors picked the wrong f***ing players. We have lads who can bowl 90+mph but they were left at home - that's not Kevin Shine's fault.
Regarding Shine though, we shall see if his methods work in the coming years - but I'm very wary of England coaches messing with bowlers technique and rythym, historically that has done more harm than good.

I just thought that in an age where a lot (albeit there a few exceptions) of sports journalism can be banal (did you know Cook likes farming?) this was a decent article. And I wondered if you agreed
By that logic, every cricketing pundit is part of the problem? Right?Yeah, you make a good point Bri - wouldn't be the first time that 'journalist' has talked up FTECB or the establishment.
I'd say right now, the public would be more interested to hear from the selectors. They are the ones questions should be being put to. Its a disgrace how easy of a ride they're getting.
Well that's up to you, but the way I see it (and Bri sees it) it was the epitome of banal. I've said already, we have 90+mph bowlers, but what difference does it make if the same old military medium trundlers get picked ahead of them?
As alluded to, I think the real questions should be being asked of the selectors - she doesn't do hard questions though. She's part of the problem, shes the establishment and she's happy to be, because that's how she's got to where she has.

One or two then. You feel sorry for me? I feel sorry for you that you are so blinkered by a gender. I don’t think it’s a work of art, but it was quite interesting. It may not have answered the questions you have, but it was about something different to thatIf you want something that isn't banal - read George Dobell, he isn't scared to rattle a few cages. Even Tim Wellock asks the questions people want asked. I feel quite sorry for you that you think that article isn't banal, I'm genuinely not trying to offend by saying that.
WRONG. See above.

Don't get me wrong I quite like Lizzie and have enjoyed many of her articles but you can see how this went down. ie ECB: "Lizzie, if you want to do an article on fast bowler we can get you access to Kevin Shine and you can see for yourself what is happening."One or two then. Which is fair enough but Lizzie had the chance but seems not to have addressed the criticisms.
Why do bowlers apparently go into Loughborough bowling fast and come out slower?
What are you doing to prevent injuries and how successful are you at that? - with all the data they're supposedly collecting they must have some on injury prevention.
Anyway, interesting but a lost opportunity imho
Maybe so. I wasn’t picking up on that, I was picking up on the point that she should be having a go at the selectors, which isn’t what this article is about.Don't get me wrong I quite like Lizzie and have enjoyed many of her articles but you can see how this went down. ie ECB: "Lizzie, if you want to do an article on fast bowler we can get you access to Kevin Shine and you can see for yourself what is happening."
