Shithole Countries

You've been conditioned to expect the POTUS to act and speak in a certain way - that doesn't mean there is only one "correct" way for a President to act and speak. The early political leaders of the US were not teleprompter-reading empty suits who always used cordial and politically correct language, they were often blunt, harsh and pulled no punches. Thomas Jefferson on his opponet John Adams: “a hideous hermaphroditical character which has neither the force and firmness of a man, not the gentleness and sensibility of a woman.” Imagine Trump saying that now?

So what was the racist comment?

I haven't seen what the racist comment is, nor have I called Trump a racist based on what was alleged to have been said today.

I don't need to imagine Trump saying something like that, given he already made a very clear joke about someone shooting Hillary Clinton.

I think you want a society where people, especially people in power can do and say what they really think. I don't think you understand the importance of tact. I mean, you wouldn't tell your boss you thought he or she was talking shite, would you? You'd approach it tactfully. It's the same principle here.

His office is a prestigious one, and at the very least, he should act with dignity.

I understand where you're coming from but I'd just prefer the plain truth tbh, don't dress it up. Also, he allegedly made the "shithole" remark in a private meeting. I bet other Presidents have made similar "politically incorrect" comments in private that never got leaked. Trump is unfortunately (for one reason or another) the most targeted President in history - there are people trying get rid of him left, right and centre, hence why this comment got leaked.

The plain truth is great for the sake of transparency but I don't think the real world works on the plain truth. If the plain truth governed everything, we'd probably be a lot worse off as a society.

I agree it's unfortunate that private comments were leaked to the press. However, if we are going to go down the route of transparency, do the people not have the right to know that's what he said?

sick of this bullshit man

You'd think the whole hunt against a black president with bullshit rumours about his birth certificate never happened or something...

If there are people trying to get rid of Trump, then he's gave them more than enough reasons for those actions to be morally justified. Just because you perceive him as a "victim" (which he is not) does not somehow make everything he does permissible or justifiable.

The more transparency the better IMO, I don't appreciate being lied to or having the truth concealed from me by people we elect and pay via taxpayer money. I'd take the truth every time tbh, warts and all, for better or worse - that's just the way I am.

The "shithole" comment is both not racist (in the context it was allegedly said) and truthful from what I can tell. I find it interesting that people get so upset and outraged by stuff like this.

I don't think the shithole comment is racist I agree.

I think we have different approaches to transparency as I'm happy for politicians to be tactful and diplomatic. Obviously that comes with the caveat that lying to the electorate about a big issue is a huge no-no.

The "birther" stuff about Obama was mostly mocked by mainstream media outlets. The campaign against Trump is widespread and incessant across pretty much every mainstream media platform, not to mention the constant leaks from people who are supposed to be working for him. "They" quite clearly want rid of him.

Have you never stopped for one moment to wonder why they criticise him? Have you ever thought to reflect that he might just be bringing it on himself by what he says, and what he does? Does politics exist in a vacuum where there is no accountability? Are you trying to say no President in history but Trump has been criticised in the mainstream media?

And again, political leaks did not originate with Trump. Every political administration in modern history, be it loved or hated, has suffered from "leaks", that's politics. To reciprocate that into a conspiracy against your beloved cheeto is a denial of reality, but then again, as are most things said by his supporters.

He does bring some of it on himself, I agree. Sometimes he does it on purpose.

However, some of the stuff the media have come out with has been a joke and other Presidents would never have got anywhere near as much criticism Trump gets. The meltdown over the "MUSLIM BAN!" for example, when he basically used a list of (some would say "shithole") countries drawn up by Obama, which barely got a mention at the time. The Jerusalem thing, this "mental health" nonsense (you were called a conspiracy theorist not that long ago for questioning the health of certain politicians) and so on. He doesn't get half as much praise as other Presidents would get either (although tbf I have noticed a couple of vaguely positive BBC articles recently).

Haiti suffers a horrific earthquake. The us has an influx of refugees. The f***ing president of the usa calls the place a shithole and wonders why so many are there. Imagine just for one second you are from haiti, you've lost your home, you're a f***ing refugee and the president of your host country says that. Imagine how that'd make you feel. And has the f***ing cheek to spout that shit today about martin luther king. He's nuts. Martin Luther King would f***ing despise the thin skinned wavy haired little paranoid fuck.

He's dividing people in ways i have never seen in my life. Great leaders unite. He's a f***ing shit leader.

Key word: "Host". The refugees from Haiti aren't entitled to a US passport.

Tbh, I'd rather live in the USA with a President who thinks my country is a shithole than live in my country which is a shithole.

Previous Presidents who were popular had their indiscretions covered up. JFK for example. If he were still alive I wonder how many sexual abuse claims would be being made against him?

Who knows?

He was still an incredibly popular president who kept things behind closed doors the best he could. He had tact and diplomacy. Trump doesn't. It's a huge failing of the whole 'speak your mind' part of politics - that doesn't work. It doesn't work anywhere.

Excuse me? Did Trump leak his statement about shithole countries? No he didn’t. Some backstabbing untrustworthy bastard did that.
