Sending your child to London

We were on Ray Tate's coach from Penshaw Juniors. Peter Stronach the local lad scored a hat trick for England. I think it was Sussex Gardens out Paddington way where we stayed.

Years ago i played on the same fire brigade team as him when we had an inter station tournament. He'll have been in his 40's while we were all in our 20's.

You could tell he still had It, f***ing great player..

However we got knocked out in the group stages, unfortunately he couldn't calibrate his magnificent footballing brain to our level of shitness so we drew 2 and lost one...

Bastard squads...

Same here, think it cost a tenner

We went in the first year comp, one day the teachers dropped us off at Richmond or some f***ing place and said meet us back here at 4 before disappearing into the pub..

We found some outdoor/fishing store and stocked up on black widow catapults and flick knives and shit. Spent the rest of the day running riot until we met the coach back to MC at 4 o'clock. We found some wasteland with an oil drum and shot fuck out of that while others went on a shoplifting frenzy. It was f***ing mental looking back....

Imagine that now man with their yellow hats and bibs

Plenty of children live and grow up in London with no harm befalling them.
The capital has so much on offer for children. All the museums are free and the landmark sights not to mention important government offices are all great for them to experience.

I just don't see the issue.

What makes you concerned in this arrangement?

@becs isn't particularly concerned, from what I can tell from the past 18 pages (a good 12 of which have been bollocks from people who think that Trump is Jesus). She's decidedly in the happy for her daughter to go camp. It's some of the parents of her daughter's classmates that seem to have issues.

TBH, and this is not directed toward you specifically, if a thread has 300+ posts, people should read the first two or three pages before replying (and quoting the first post) as if there's been no discussion that's been at all relevant.

I hear you but I can't wade through all that Gumph.
I never went on the exotic holiday school trips as we couldn't afford it. I went to holiday orchestra instead.

Fair enough, TBH. After the first few pages, there's a lot of bollocks mostly. A lot of people seem to think that a Mackem a day gets stabbed in London, that there are 2 to 3 terrorist attacks a day in London and that a child will be automatically saved if one of their parents is with them during a terrorist attack. Also, the Rainbow Cafe is really poor value because the food is expensive and shit (but equally, it's good for kids because they do educational stuff).

Maybe I was a bit ambiguous in the first post? I was a bit cross when I was writing it

I just assumed people would think I'd be fine with it considering how much I've travelled both in the UK and abroad with my lot.

When my daughter was at the end of year 5 she went on a school trip to Normandy staying in a chateau overlooking the Utah Beach cliff tops. We had no choice other to let her go as all her mates were going. The main thing was she really enjoyed it and it was quite educational as she visited D Day museums etc.
Two years later in year 7 she was off to Wimbledon for a couple of days. Not educational but enjoyable.
Let them go!

I was flummoxed

I should have read on as it didn't seem to make sense on the face of it.
That's why I asked what the issue was but if it is other parents does that jeopardise the trip or something?

I thought your first post was really good because you didn't just jump in with sort of "cockmangling parents at my daughter's school are blowing themselves up to avoid their kids having to suffer London" headline. I assumed you were on the positive but unhappy side (as did a fair few people). As an aside, if you do take your daughter to London, take her to Mildreds (in Soho, but also elsewhere), as well as the Rainforest Cafe. It's vegetarian but the food is tremendous!

Mr P came to London with the cubs when he was a bairn and when they were walking along Kensington High St, the Queen was driven past them. They all lined up and gave the cub scout salute, and she gave them a little wave.

Really tickles me for some reason.

I was trying to be fair in case I was overreacting by being angry at them for not sending their children as they obviously have some reason to believe it's dangerous.

Filth ;)

I still get tickled when the Queen drives by :D

Don't know if it's still there but didn't the scouts HQ used to be around the corner from Euston?

Just a straw poll as I'm proper fummin about something!

If you had a child in Year 6 (age 10-11), would you be willing to send them on a school trip to London? It would include travelling down by train, staying in a Youth Hostel for two nights and visiting popular tourist attractions by Tube.
Yes. My daughter's school sent the year 4 or 5 to London. What's the problem?
