Thrifty folk of the SMB

Any amusing stories of high level cheapness?

I’m sure I remember reading on here about a poster who boils the kettle at work and takes the hot water home in a flask!

Pinching toilet roll from work has been mentioned

I try to be. Usually fail like. Currently trying to buy as less food from the shops for lunch and just bringing a pack up. Should save a bit of money.

Need to put some aside for a holiday next year

I don't mind spending money provided I get good value. Neither I or our lass like going to restaurants as we're both canny cooks and can rustle up restaurant-quality food at home for usually a third of the price. I mean simple stuff like pizza, pasta, steak and chips etc. For that reason you would never find me in Miller and Carter or Bellinis, or eating a Sunday lunch out. I will buy takeaway food that I can not accurately replicate such as fish and chips (hats off to Fountains), chinese and Indian food. I'm on the Foodies FB group mainly as a lurker and am amazed at how much cash a lot of "the community" spend on takeaways or eating out, especially when you consider that they are all Sunderland people and are therefore probably not well-remunerated and so don't have a massive amount of disposable income, all seemingly being parents of superstar bairns. I suppose that to some folk eating out is a lifestyle choice or in Jolene's case a necessity as she seems to find home cooking challenging judging by her question "do you make mayonnaise with salad cream?":lol:.

I detest being ripped off and therefore almost obsessively research my prospective purchase prior to spending money, unless I have previously bought the same object/service. I find the process enjoyable though.

So I don't consider myself tight: just careful.

Nowt wrong with being careful marra,

This thread is about apparently normal folk with nice cars and houses who will absolutely not buy a round if the pub is expensive and will wait until the night moves to Wetherspoons before buying theirs, or suddenly decide its time to go home.

I got a pair of Clark's for £27 reduced from £90 yesterday. Canny pleased with that.

I got a pair of Adidas Gazelles for £30.

I don't like being ripped off. I don't see the point in paying over the odds for the exact same thing so I'm a regular at B&M's and Heron's in Houghton for cleaning stuff, crisps, drinks, pet food etc. etc.

I'm not tight when it comes to spending money on more important things.

This for me too. I'll doff my cap to you in Heron next time.

Get their daily emails (HotUKDeals). Undoubtedly great bargains to be had but I'm convinced overall I spend more money because of it.
I spend money on stuff I don’t need. I didn’t need the fleece but was a bargain to be had, but half the deals are usually gone before you get the chance like those tubs of sweets from Tesco/Asda etc.
