Anyone on here live (or lived) in York?? advice needed

Daft thread title

You don’t need to have lived there to know where’s good for food.

Btw Betty’s tea room is amazing, make sure you have a fat rascal

Each to their own I suppose - I think it's class, and it's always rammed every time I go in.

Why do you think it's shite, btw?
I've been in about 4 times now, and its been dead every time. And shit.
The wife liked it, which is why we went in, but even she concedes its actually crap now.

You trying to wind me up? Betty's are horrible corporate bastards who stole the rascal, then banned the town where they were invented from making them. Fuck them.

Some of the Samuel Smith's pubs are ludicrously cheap, almost everything is about £2 and there's one pint which is £1.34.
This brewery is also a bunch of twats. Fuck them too.
Remember how everyone loved Vaux - our local brewery. Well, everyone hates the Sam Smiths brewery, because they are nasty arseholes to their local town - wouldn't even lend the town a few square meters of unused land to site a temporary bridge after a flood.

What night (or day) of the week did you go in?
The whole point in a day out on the lash in York is so you don't remember such details ;)

Its no bother though, if you like it, great. I don't mind it, I just don't get the "buzz" people have for it. I'm sure loads of people would say the same about Pivni.

Well, I suppose it depends on whether or not you like the Stone Roses and other bands of the same genre. I do, but I admit the Stone Roses bar is a bit rough around the edges and sometimes gets a rowdy day tripper crowd in that some people may not like, but every time I'm in York I pay it a visit.

I've nowt against the theming, its just a bit of a claggy mat sort of place. With shit beer.

Going in there is like living in one of forzamilan's Liam Gallagher threads for an hour!

The best thing about York has to be that there's shitloads of pubs in close vicinity and therefore plenty choice. But that weird mix of pretentious student, loads of tourists and the lego hair faux-manc brigade who confuse Shed Seven with Beethoven keeps you on your toes.

I only live 15 miles from York and whenever I go past Betty’s I’m bewildered by the queue to get in and pay a tenner for a cup of tea and a scone.

It’s the upmarket tea & cake equivalent of Harry Ramsdens imho.

I'd say stay clear of any rough EDL type bars

Such as???

Avoid any bars with Mags in.Otherwise you'll be in fine.

That's a given.....

Went to York on a stag, watched us get beat 3-0 off Swansea then couldn't get in anywhere until we split into twos and threes, which was proper shit so we got the 6pm (dry) train back to Sunderland and finished up here.

The day out still lasted longer than my mate's marriage.

:eek::eek::eek:
