Sending your child to London

Just a straw poll as I'm proper fummin about something!

If you had a child in Year 6 (age 10-11), would you be willing to send them on a school trip to London? It would include travelling down by train, staying in a Youth Hostel for two nights and visiting popular tourist attractions by Tube.

Mmmm it's a hard one. Different world now.
I went to France by coach at 11. Was class. We bought a crate of Canadian Dry ginger ale thinking it was booze. Good memories.

I just don't know if I'd even send my daughter at 26 to London. Hate the place. Admittedly only seen kings cross etc on Wembley trips and a few business trips but it's just a skanky dirty place. Much like Paris. Shit holes. I think it'd be a no from me.

why?

It's a Youth Hostel set up for school use with their own secured corridor. It has rooms and bathrooms for all the children and teachers. Once they're in a night, the corridor door will be locked so nobody can get in and nobody can walk off.

Fair enough then, different to the types of place i`ve stopped in before, all sorts of dodgepots kicking about.

Still would prefer them stopping in a proper place mind

I lived there for 10 years, my eldest was born there and was happy there until we left when she was 3.

When there I was never mugged, assaulted nor attacked in any way, shape or form. Not even so much as an argument.

Some folk really need to examine their beliefs of what our capital city is like.

As long as she / he is supervised they will be fine Becs, although I understand your concerns!

My parents had both been on school trips to Edinburgh as kids but didn’t even get to London until they were much older. I think my mam only went once and she was in her late 60s or early 70s.

My mam couldn’t even spot London on a map she’d point towards the area where Oxford is.

To be fair to get 20+ parents out of 29 to find 280 quid in North East England is rather optimistic IMO.
We've coughed 230 ish for our 9 yo to go to Derwent hill for 5 days.
I don't have a problem with Derwent hill. I may well have with London mind. Depends on how many adults were on the trip. 20+ 10 year olds on the tube sounds like torture for the adult supervisors to me. Many of these kids will never have set foot in London Tbh

What are you fummin about and why have you phrased it as sending?

I had a fantastic school trip to London at that age, but we stayed in a four star hotel.
