This can only go well. I'm convinced.

Beeb seem to reckon Crane in for Melbourne...
Me too. Right from the off it never looked like our bowlers had the stuff to take many wickets. So to conclude, I DO feel this is worse than last time.
Tbf to Ali he has performed very consistently for a number of years if they dropped him for this test, that would have meant he would have been dropped after just 2 bad tests, that would have been very harsh.
Exactly the sort of conservatism and sentimentality that is killing us.
You need to have a bad series (or worse) if you play for England. A couple of bad games for Australia and you're out on your arse, with public backing.
Compare and contrast with Australia's handling of Handscomb and Maxwell.
I have nothing against your point in princple however it’s the lack of depth that’s the problem for English cricket.
I am all for changes if the replacements are better are they?
I agree.Simple as that. This Australia team are absolutely f***ing average, yet they're going to beat our spineless bastards 5-0 again![]()
Chris Tremlett:
Players and Management can be as honest as they want about this tour, but if we keep playing a style of cricket that relies on the swinging ball all around the world then it’s going to continue to be the same outcome away from home.
Maybe so but is that a proper way to proceed? If you want to win in the Sub-Continent you need to deal with spin or in Australia pace, but if you are not able to develop the tools then the games are little more than a procession, which is boring.Isn't it pretty much the same for every country they rely on their home conditions? When was the last time Aussies won over here. India are ranked number 1 but look at their record outside Asia

I think the difference is too extreme at present and made that way by the ECB reserving the summer for T20 and that I think is unhealthy for Test cricket.
Well, I disagree. I don't think selection would have made any difference. You can look at ways at changing things to prepare for future tours but for now and a series like this you have to get selection right which we didn't. Every man and his dog thought Plunkett should have went bar the selectors who opted for Ball and Curran instead. Crane may come good but surely there were better spin options. Vince we knew what he was like and he hasn't changed. We did change the coin toss in the county championship in an attempt to find a spinner yet ignore Leach who has had 2 great seasons. They'll be plenty of changes I imagine but we should start by sacking the selectors who have failed miserably in 2 big tours of India and Australia recently

I would do if we could have picked Starc, Cummings and Hazlewood.
We didn't have one bowler at their standard. Plunkett hasn't been a big wicket taker although I think it sounds like everyone here would have taken him and Jimmy's best game was the day-nighter when conditions were most England-like.
We just don't have the team to win there.
Are you seriously telling us there are no better spinners than Ali and Crane, averaging 40 apiece in the CC?
In the fast-bowling department, Toby Roland Jones and Craig Overton outshone Broad and Woakes when given an opportunity.
If you don't give people a crack, how do you ever find out?
Amazing how Australia manage to have greater depth than us, when they have six First Class teams and we have twenty.
We were arguably as bad in India.I agree.
Posted the question in the match thread, this has to be the worst away Ashes performance outside of the dominant Australian period and Jimmy saying it is not a fair reflection of the competitiveness of the series![]()
We could always go back to the good old days of getting slaughtered in Australia while using 25 players!!
