James Anderson at 36 has never bowled more overs in a series then this one....if not for jimmy we'd have not taken 10 wickets all series
Surely his wickets would have been taken by someone else, albeit at a worse economy. The alternative would be every Australian innings a declaration.

The man's a legend though. Hopefully we'll get another 2 years out of him.

adding a few extra days onto his age my mistake

james anderson most maidens by an england bowler, 2nd most for any seamer

It's not laughable, for reasons we've been through many many many many times. You might not agree with the society we live in, but that's your business.

The ECB could stop him if they liked (centrally contracted players need to receive clearance to play in every case, but they have issued a Non Objection Certificate) because he is contracted to play for them and they are still playing his wages.

The laughability (word ;)) is not in anything we've covered many (x4) times before, it's actually relatively new ground - it is the fact FTECB won't play him, but they know they must let him earn a living elsewhere.

Fact is, if they said no, his people could and would put pressure on them over their denying him his human right to work. As he has been afforded the luxury of playing in overseas tournaments before, they can't deny him that right again, without a potential legal fight - which I think they realise.

I'll go further on it, as it now wouldn't surprise me one iota if that useless set of muppets (CPS) still haven't sorted anything come April. Durham WILL elect to play him, I'm 99% certain that we, under Botham's stewardship, will pick Ben to play for us and so once again FTECB will be forced to allow him to play - because I believe I'm right in saying that even though he's centrally contracted, he'll still earn expenses (match fees) for playing for us...... Again coming down to that right to earn a living.

The only thing I'd say that could stop him is if FTECB ban him from domestic tournaments, however he's innocent until proven guilty.

5 wickets in 175 overs :lol::lol::lol:

He is earning a living, he's centrally contracted and still being paid. They don't have to let him or any other centrally contracted player go to the IPL, they don't have to let Stokes play for Durham or anyone else. The ECB could tell to go and sit at home and do nothing if they liked, he's centrally contracted, he's an employee of the ECB.

I'm not sure why this is so hard to understand.

IMO they are doing right by the player, they can't really pick him for England so let him go out and play club cricket.

The right to work argument is a minefield like. The Universal Declaration says you have the right to freely choose your own work. Has Stokes already had that freedom taken from him? On the one hand, he's been prevented from playing for England. On the other, he's still in the squad and being paid for it, and no barriers have been put in his way from playing elsewhere. Does that constitute him freely working or not? Does it matter that a professional sportsperson must be actually plying their trade at their highest level to remain properly engaged in their chosen career? Minefield.

Holy baby Jesus. Batting collapse? I'd need an ambulance if I even got to the crease.

What's the maximum expected to be? They said 45c in West Sydney on TMS. Just another day on the beach.

it's around 42 degrees at the ground now and same where i live which is about 13kms away. i've just got back in the house and it's f***ing awful out there. one of our daughters is going to a b'day party this afternoon... ice skating! f***ing perfect for today.

I went to watch Australia vs India at the Adelaide Oval in 2012, I think it got to around 37-38C and I was stupid enough to be sitting in the unshaded part (before the redevelopment), and that was pretty damn unpleasant, the plastic seats and railings were boiling hot.
