Alistair Cook: An apology

Right, so some of us never doubted his class and have a clear conscience in terms of calling for his retirement.

The great forum minds that are myself and @chopsfc007 are able to truly revel in our greatest* opener's return to form.

However, there are many amongst us who owe him an apology. So come on, own up, be a man and admit you were wrong.......

Otherwise, I WILL find the posts and shame you ;)

*of the modern era, atleast.

What a twat

He was the one player I thought could retire after this series.

I didn't want him dropped but he has struggled and people weren't in the wrong for questioning his place in the team.

Mind you if @chopsfc007 was a selector he would pick Herbert Sutcliffe as he has a good average.

At least I have faith in our best player ever cookie:cool:

Wise words Brandon and here is to many years more of such greatness

I've no real opinion one way or the other but Cook himself when interviewed at stumps today admitted he's been embarrassed about his performance over there this tour so any criticism has been fair game.
Nah, to critique is fine. Everyone is open to that but this was about saying he should be dropped.

Too little too late im afraid. Same goes with Broad. Hes still got the talent and hopefully the desire.
The fact that the pressure is off so they go out and perform boils my piss more than if they wernt good enough.
It speaks volumes of their characters unfortunately.
Chokers.

Wouldn't question Cook's character mind. Rescued England many times

Never said a word against him me
Bet you are gerrymandering ;)

Never suggested that he should be pensioned off but I will hold my hand up and say that he looked woefully out of sorts and looked incapable of getting a run. Love Cooky me as a testament to someone who was not born with heaps of ability (like a Lara or Tendulkar) but getting the amount of runs through sheer determination and grit. Impossible to dislike the bloke too

Sad day if you have to use chops to prove a point Brandy.

I stand by anything I said about him, what’s the point in having an opinion if you change it like Boycott. Changes his mind faster than a Starc bouncer. I’ve beaten the drum for some players who have become mainstays (Woakes) and some who failed to make a mark (Luke Wright).

Still think he could retire of his own accord after this series. At least now that little rat faced cünt Lyon won’t claim they “made him retire”.

I would have him in the team still naiked on, but it just pisses me rite off when players perform after the party has finished. They all to a man have been like rabbits in the headlights.

More to do with the conditions being much easier than anything to do with the pressure being off in my opinion. Basically they have just had to see Hazlewood off on a benign pitch and then fill their boots.

Grow up. Cook himself admitted his form was shit and he was one game away from being dropped. It would have been nice if he and Broad had motivated themselves for team reasons, when there was a chance of retaining the Ashes.

I'm sure they were thoroughly motivated for every innings they have played they just weren't good enough. Cook has managed to score runs in more benign conditions against a weaker attack but its childish to suggest they weren't 'motivated for team reasons'.

In fact what a load of shite

Suggesting Cook and Broad, players with immaculate international pedigree, are only doing well because of benign conditions is a lot more f***ing absurd. Also self contradictory given the pitch is hardly likely to favour both at any one time.

What is common here is both were basically a game away from being dropped and this motivated them to work with coaches to up their game.
