This is what the Aussies love to do - kick you even harder when you are down. Wait until it happens to them they will be quieter than Ian Chappell when you mention Ian Botham. They are trying to make Root feel weak and vulnerable. If it was me I would take no notice just as I did when bowlers tried to get at me. I wasn't that good but I never replied just got on with batting. They hated that. Very poor losers.

Always said from the moment Cook gave it up I would rather he hadn't got it but there really are no alternatives. He needs Stokes back, although it's unlikely he'll be be given the Vice Captaincy back if and when he does return.

Really good article from Ian Chappell talking about England so far. He was discussing the loss of Stokes as a cricketer but also the impact it has had on Root's captaincy. He argued that Stokes, as a hugely attacking and positive individual, would have been his first point of contact and instead he is going to Anderson and Broad who have a much more defensive mindset.

He’s the only realistic choice as captain, and he seems to have captained relatively well

His conversion rate with the bat however...

Aye, not sure how you can pin this shambles of a tour on roots captaincy, the players haven't done the business at crucial times imo

I think Root has been horrendous as captain so far, there's nothing to say he'll make a good captain going off what he's so far done in that role - however, it's far too early to write him off. What's more, I have no doubt that he'll improve his captaincy tenfold before the next winter tour.

Well, it's a cliche, but you do learn more in adversity than when things are going well.

I think it may be time to put to bed any ideas that hes anywhere near as good as virat and smith like

Not a chance.

He looked lost before the ashes even started. Take the captaincy off him before it ruins him

He's a brilliant batsman should have a lot more centuries though. Love watching Kohil but this next year we'll see how he does outside of India

Scored runs everywhere apart from england

He wasnt that god either tbf when they toured england as he was young. Hes a much better player now

Root is really good but 50s from your number 4 arent going to win you a test match.

For some reason, people seem to want focus on the very few negatives of Kohli, rather than just come out and say, he is simply a amazing outstanding cricketer who adapts his game to all 3 formats better than any other cricketer in the world.
