The Post-Ashes Inquest Thread

Bayliss has to go, there's just too much scrambled thinking in the camp. Start of day three and we're still 200 ahead in a game we have to win and we start the day with one slip and two sweepers. Set the tone for the day and the Aussies went 350-1 over the day's play. And that's just one example.

Liam Livingstone was probably the best number 3 in County cricket last year, he should have been in the team last April and they can't ignore him any longer. Has the added bonus that he's an absolute wanker, he would have loved the fight.

I don't know if Cook, Broad and Anderson want to carry on, but if they don't we're in serious bother. I'm wondering if they might want to have crack at the Aussies at home in 2019.

Plunkett played 2 red ball games last season - still has everyone on here calling for him to be playing. Logic and fact isn't everything on this forum however right you are RVF...

He's our quickest, fit bowler. By a country mile. He played so little FC cricket, mainly, at the request of England - One Dayers, Lions, etc. However the squad selected, proves completely that county form is f***ing irrelevant anyway!

What did we lack last time in Oz, massively, aside from the ability to bat - fast bowling. What are we severely lacking this time around too........ FAST BOWLERS. It's so blindingly f***ing obvious to everyone except the selectors. After the last debacle down there we even had a f***ing inquest and put a plan in place to nurture more fast bowlers. So why the fuck has that idea completely gone from the minds of the selectors?

Probably because they're a set of incompetent wankers.

Every single pundit wants Plunkett and can't understand what he's done wrong. I've come to the conclusion he must've been knobbing someone's missus. Cause why else, when knowing we need pace, would the selectors pick a pace attack of military medium, predictable, completely the same as each other seamers??

He had a very poor FC Season just gone mate.

Fair enough still think he's a better choice than Crane. Leach also worth a shout.

Had a groin injury and missed plenty due to the one day stuff with England. Of course he should have went

We haven't had a decent opening batting for years now. How many times have we lost 3 wickets before we get to 50? We used to have to rely on Joe Root coming in to bail us out, but now it seems like his runs are starting to dry up. Cook is finished imo and whoever he has alongside him doesn't look good enough

Short Term
Sack the selectors
Drop Broad, Cook & Moeen
Replace Bayliss with a proper Test Match Coach, let Bayliss concentrate on White Ball Cricket
Get Stokes back in the team

Long Term
Reduce the number of County Championship games, allow bowlers to bowl fast without the fear of injuries caused by playing game after game on the "circuit"
Get younger players playing in Australia, India and Sri Lanka in the winter. Fuck the Lions tours, get them playing club/grade/state cricket and learn the game abroad
Play Tests on flat wickets with Kookaburra balls - allow bowlers to learn how to get opponents out on flat wickets, not just trundle up at 80mph on a green top in May
Establish a Spin Bowling academy on the sub-continent. Send British spinners over there to learn the art of spin.

Selectors got the squad wrong. Would love to know why Ball and Crane were preferred to Plunkett and Rashid. Vince didnt merit a recall also
Agree. Vince did ok though, but agree he didn't merit a recall

Who are you dropping our highest run scorer ever for

Lets face it, away from English conditions when the ball is doing fuck all off the pitch or through the air, the bowlers we chose are basically bog standard medium pacers.
What's galling though is every time over there we don't just get beat, we get absolutely mullered.
There's hardly any resistance.

Short Term
Bayliss should go. I think he was going to go anyway.
Have a dedicated Test coach

Not a lot else to do. short term. Better players just aren't there.

Long Term
Drop that extra T20 competition
Play more games in the height of summer

We need fast bowlers and spin bowlers and batsmen who can play fast bowling. I don't think T20 helps develop Test skills and I don't think playing County Cricket at the bookends of the season helps either. Frankly if even less 4 day cricket is played I doubt I'd be up for buying a season ticket, I didn't use it much last year tbh.
