slipped disc.. road to recovery

anybody had a slipped disc in back and if so how long out for training wise ?
cheers
sorry to ask but is it actually a herniated disc or just a 'generic' bad back. I had one in lower back (finally diagnosed as L4 via MRI) around 6-7 years ago - rest helped but it didn't actually go away until I went to see an osteopath. Probably took 6 months to be totally pain free.

ps - this was well before I started running, when I say pain free that was just doing simple stuff like sitting down and walking / bending etc.

doctor said it was likely to be bulging disc (disc moved slightly and touching the nerves)... physio had said similar , disc touching nerves (trapped nerves in back), got physio exercises/stretches to do every day but its a right ballache, got constant pain running down my back and a right miserable get as result - no cardio or weights

Found my TENS machine it was behind my drum kit, need it as my back pain knacks.

A slipped disk will hinder you as there is no cure or surgery that's nailed on to work.

I have a terrible bad back, it knacks doesn't it.

dunno if its fully slipped mate, just moved slightly would be my guess, have changed where my pc sits on desk also to see if that helps and doing regular back twists/stretches
going to see a bloke in sunderland tonight who often straightens backs etc , see if he can help

yes mate ,some physios re bit sceptical of him as he uses some strange methods !! just thought worth a try, desperate to just be able to do some form of exercise again and not be in constant waves of pain, was bit gutted as triathlon type training was working out canny for me as had lost some of the love for just running

Good luck mate. SR is the only one to get stuck into root of my problem, going back next week. fingers crossed. He hurts a bit more like but better for it!

He sorted me out, no injuries since May. Doesn't hurt me, maybe cos I'm solid. Surprised fletch is doing summit about, he normally just likes whinging

There is a tear in my L5-S1 disc. The gunk inside the disc is slowly being forced out, and is pressing against the sciatic nerve.
Kinda painful like.
