Save Doxfords West Gateway

I know we've had this debate before but, since I think you're saying there are all these restoration plans, would it not be easier and cheaper to recreate the building in a new place as part of a new development? It seems ridiculous to try and save this place in it's current state and current location. I know it wouldn't quite be the same as the original but it would be an acknowledgement of the past that keeps getting mentioned.

I think the suggestion seems to be take it down and rebuild on the vaux site

It would ruin a perfect site for development, so it’s probably nailed on. Just let it go for me, it’s a hotch potch of little merit that was probably a sign of oppression each morning to the poor buggers who had to trudge through it.

Is the arbeit macht frei sign still in tact?

Yes, I just don't quite get why it has to be the actual building itself (which looks beyond any saving from whatever glory days it had). A recreatio would be cheaper and easier and if there is actually anything left in the original worth saving then you could incorporate it.

Ouch.

^^ this.

In this modern day, it's all to easy to kick up a fuss (nay, a furore) for the slightest of things.

Social media can be a wonderful thing, but when you look at things like "Seaham Have Your Say" and "North East Foodies", it gives the idiots of the world a platform - and they actually think that because they have a voice, EVERY FUCKER must hear it.

This happened with Farage, Yaxley-Lennon, Len Lowther, Fransen & Trump.

In its most extreme and divisive form, we have subliminal infiltration (on social media) that leads to disasters like Brexit.
Its called freedom of speech moron.
Putting the president of the USA in the same sentence as len lowther just about sums you up.

Sad but true. It looks pretty shit tbf.
That's why it's called restoration.

Get it knocked down and have the place re-developed - yards have been a deadzone for far too long. Any real "heritage" is long gone and we should have had a ship building museum and fully developed riverside leading into the town centre.

There were plans for the full area of Groves to be developed into a residential area including shops and a pub. The new bridge route cuts through this, so the master planning has changed over the years, but that's not to say there still isn't land available to develop.

What is slightly frustrating, is they've sold the rights to build on greenfield at Chapelgarth to fund the developments at Vaux, when there is swathes of brownfield land along the river, ripe for residential development. Which also happens to be closer to the town centre, which will boost trade there too.

Soz, Len.

So, you don't mind being compared to Yaxley-Lennon, Farage, Fransen and other brain donor racists?

Tell you what, get back to serving up shit & trying to sell over-priced buildings, eh?
