Daily Mail: How Hollywood fuels sexism

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-5081501/How-Hollywood-films-FUEL-sexism.html

The DM (I knar) posted this article about how a study by computer scientists at the University of Washington analysed the language used in about 800 scripts along with the storylines and it showed women are portrayed weakly in films.

I don't think that needs to be debated, of course they do. Films generally do better with make protagonists and they will obviously get the lions share of cool lines.

It's a big of a non-article, I just think it's hilarious that the DM can come out with that shit given their daily headlines:

-Newly-single Georgia Toffolo sizzles in racy lingerie after 'splitting from MIC beau ahead of I'm A Celeb'... as she joins FOUR singletons in 'raunchiest' series yet

-Braless Sofia Richie, 19, puts on a VERY daring display in extreme plunging blazer as she attends beauty launch in London without beau Scott Disick, 34

-Abs-olute stunner! Emily Ratajkowski displays her model physique in skimpy crop top and high-rise trousers as she steps out with a male friend

Although, today, in the name of equality:
-Women really DO fancy men with 'muscles and money' according to the website full of pictures of 'hot commuters' taken secretly by females on the London Underground

Anyway, DM, didn't read, fuck off etc.

Fillums use attractive women to make money
So does the Daily Mail
arguably the Mail is worse and if the rumours about Dacre are true he's a horrendous workplace bully too

I watch a lot of old black and white films and around the 40s and 50s there were lots of strong leading women. I love watching these films. However, as much as it pains me to say it, I can't think of any contemporary female actresses who are a big draw for me. I think this has a lot to do with what scripts/projects are being made into films and how men have dominated the screen.

I refuse to comment on the Daily Mail however. :)

It's the hypocrisy that gets me. A few days back there was a Hollywood sex scandal story followed an "all grown up, look at her now" type article.

Ah good one. Not a huge Kirk Douglas fan, but he's bearable in this (I'm sure he'll be happy to know that!) Saw a trailer last night for the film about Gloria Graeme 'Film Stars Don' t Die in Liverpool' with Annette Bening as Graeme with Jamie Bell. It looks good, so as I'm a noir fan I'll have to go and see it. She certainly had an interesting life before she came to Britain. Oscar buzz for Bening perhaps? I've got a 1945 film called Cornered with Dick Powell I haven't seen before to watch - all about Nazi war criminals.

Have you seen The Stranger with Orson Welles and Edward G?

Strangely enough I had that tivoed last month but deleted it as the sound was really poor quality (which played havoc with my tinnitus). It seemed intriguing and again, I hadn't seen that before either. Welles was living under cover I gathered.
