Back/Hip Problems

Anybody on here have problems with their hips (cue jokes about getting it knocked out).

I am in constant agony whilst I wait for a MRI and Xray. The only thing that eases the pain is a hot bath, the meds, gabapentin and codeine are ok but not the answer.

I would be interested if anybody on here has hip pain and what they do to ease the pain?

Do you have a desk job

Get an inversion table.

Yes. I swear it does me no favours.

Have you tried getting some physio too? Or a dog, that will get you out walking before work every morning. It will stretch out and use the muscles, rather than you (assuming here) going from lying down, to sitting having breakfast, sitting in the car then sitting at a desk.

Since I got a dog a few weeks ago, I have not had any pain in my back or hips. Though I didn't before so I'm not sure I'm the best reference case.

I had hip pain for about 3 years, started of as a slight pain in groin an hip, gradually got worse. I had x-rays and showed early signs of arthritis. I'm 40 now.

Doctors kept refusing to send me to a specialist despite various pain relief not working, eventually I ended up on 8 tram. 8 paracetamol and 2 naproxen a day with still no relief.

Eventually they refered me to a specialist and the new x-rays showed avascular necrosis, the heads of my femurs had basically collapsed and we're just bone on bone rubbing with my hip.

About 8 weeks after the diagnosis I had my first hip replaced and am now waiting for the other one done. Probably January.

I also get a lot of referred pain at the bottom of my back.

You have to get up and move regular, bloke near me was suffering, medic told him he had to go for a walk every hr. Done him the world of good

I try, but I don't think I walk enough every hour. I go for a decent walk at lunchtime and I try to go again when I get home. I like to hit my step target

Had hip pain for about 10 years now, just on my right side. Only happens after I've been on my feet for an extended time - 4-5 hours minimum, but gets worse if its day after day (for me, its terrible on holidays where I tend to do lots of walking).

I went through the physio route, and they diagnosed a core muscle weakness, and that it wasn't actually the hip, but the muscles causing the pain - muscles that were working harder than they should because of a lack of core strength.

I've since had another (private) physio confirm the same thing (she kindly checked it out whilst treating me for an unrelated accident).

Assuming this info is useless to you, I find the ibrophofen gel is useful, as is a heat patch. Simply getting off my feet does the most good though
Hope you get sorted asap.

Physio referral from the GP is usually quite simple - they are canny at working out if its a muscle or a bone issue.

Yes. I have a prosthetic hip replacement to the right leg. I also suffer from back pain. How Hank hasn't suffered I will never know. He's always on about his bonking. And, bonking is the cause. Especially from the days of the back seat of a Mini. Pain relief with two paracetamol and one ibuprofen every four hours. Stronger painkillers such as pregabalin are available from your GP.

Has anyone who suffered tried doing a daily set of stretching exercises? I keep picking up various pulled muscles in my legs and think I have a slight thigh tear at the moment. If I spend 20 minutes each evening going through a full set of stretches, I feel better, my injuries work themselves out and I stop picking up new ones. Then because I don't have any stiffness or discomfort, I forget, fall out the habit and then hurt myself again.

I fractured my pelvis in May, getting out of my car, and other driver came in too close when I was half in hslf out. Hospital missed the break, pain was terrible. 30 years ago I was crushed by a fork lift truck, damaged my spine. I know quite a bit about physio and painkillers. Ibuprophen is not a good drug, look at the side effects, they are serious and I didn’t find it particularly effective. Pregabalin, Gabbapentin, I couldn’t tolerate. I am still awaiting treatment for fractured pelvis and am on Tramadol, it works.
Tried physio, some ok, some not. Used gym for 14 years and it works. Going now to do gentle movement, better than nothing. Watch out with Ibuprofen!
