Islam Homework project at Sunderland School

No it's not.

They have to write imagining all sorts of stuff at school. My youngest recently wrote a letter pretending she was a WWII evacuee child writing to her parents. They've done other stuff imagining they are living in different countries or time periods etc. The Dad here is just jumping on the Islam theme and using it to stir hatred. That's wrong.
obviously. have you seen the f***ing state of some people nowadays. get offended by everything, and then try and compare us to the thing they allegedly dislike.
"do you think a muslim school would make them do it about converting to Christianity?"

no they wouldn't, thats what makes us a more open country than theirs. the fact that we are open and learn about others makes us more knowledgeable and open.

Not according to the most recent survey:

In a 2016 survey conducted by BSA (British Social Attitudes) on religious affiliation; 53% of respondents indicated 'no religion', while 41% indicated they were Christians, followed by 6% who affiliated with other religions (e.g. Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, etc.).[408] Among Christians, adherents to the Church of England constituted 15%, Roman Catholic Church – 9%, other Christians (including Presbyterians, Methodists, other Protestants, as well as Eastern Orthodox) – 17%.[408] 71% of young people aged 18–24 said they had no religion

We're a mainly non-religious country
that's the people inside it, not the country itself. America is a free country. The UK isn't. The same that we have a monarchy, whether you like the queen or not.

Education standards are slipping. A national newspaper that doesn't know the difference between 'there' and 'their'.
Written for the readers, by the readers.
I don't understand why people are so against RE. Surely teaching kids about the ridiculous things religious people believe is the best way to ensure that they don't fall for it. It's not like the lessons actually teach that any particular religion is correct.
I don't think they teach them that it's all ridiculous, unfortunately.

This why the country has gone to the dogs. We can't have children going about imagining things! In my day that would have been called day dreaming. I'd have been flogged and rightly so.
Converting to Islam, what ever next? Nip it in the bud I say before they end up going to school in kaftans and porn is a lesson.

and btw @girojim , the 2011 census said 59% of England and Wales, 54% of Scotland and 83% of NI said they were christian. Census > BSA that surveys about 3000 people

I'm confused now, the people in it aren't christian but the country is?
the majority of Americas identify as Christian but it's a free country.

They lumped England in with the sheep shaggers yet the porridge plodgers and bog hoppers get their own figures. For that reason I'm oot!

Kids aren't stupid though. If they haven't already been brainwashed into a particular religion they'll find at least some of the things people believe ridiculous. The beauty of RE lessons IMO is that you get to compare religions side by side which just highlights the ridiculousness of believing your brand of religion is the correct one when huge amounts of the beliefs of many religions are effectively the same and originated long before their current incarnations anyway.

The majority of the country may be non Christian, but the establishment is very christian. The head of state is also the head of the church of England, and I believe we're one of only two countries that give religious officials (in our case bishops) an automatic seat in government, Iran being the other one.

We never did. We just had a awld priest that stunk of vinegar blahing on in a accent so brouge nee fecker could understand him. Still can't get me head round the trinity. How can a father be the son unless they are from Bishop Auckland where anything is possible. And what the feck did awld spooky has to do with it???

If I was at school again knowing what I know now I would have told them to fuck themselves when they tried to to teach me about any religion.

RE at school was when I first realised Islam was a bit dodgy. We learned about religions in RE at my school, not indoctrination. We were taught mohammed spread his religion by the sword, i. e. Convert or die. I surely wasn't the only one thinking it was mental.

My posts on this thread do come with the massive caveat that I have no idea what goes on in religious schools. I understand carpentry is still the most advanced form of engineering in Bishop though so you might be on to something.
