Disturbing films

Totally agree but did you know there are loads of animal deaths in very popular mainstream films, iirc in The Pirates of the Carribean hundreds of fish, turtles crabs and many other sea life were killed when they were doing explosions in the sea, also iirc in The Life of PI the tiger nearly drowned, if you google it there are loads.
Aye one of the worst is that Disney film with the dog and cat, can't remember the name

I flicked through A Serbian Film once out of curiosity as i'd read about it and thought the same as you.
It actually sounds worse written down, you don't see much on screen, thankfully.

Agreed. A Sebian Film was just hyped up in the media.
Martyrs is easily the most disturbing film i've seen
Interesting. I avoided a serbian film because of the press. Martyrs was as disturbing as i could cope with - i actually enjoyed it on reflection - but decided that was that for hardcore horror. Everything i read pointed to a serbian film being much worse.

I forgot about Henry Portrait Of A Serial Killer. That's truely disturbing too although martyrs is worse.

Actually I'd wiped "Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom" from my memory. Its the most disturbing film I've ever seen. I almost switched it off.

One Flew Ower The Cuckoos Nest.

Ere, I tell you what's a good disturbing film!!!.....

The Hunt (Jagten) 2012. Danish thriller....

Its one of the finest films of the modern era but i wouldn't call it disturbing

I didn't sit and watch it all the way through to be fair, i skipped through it and only watched a few scenes in full so couldn't fully appreciate it, if that's the right phrase?
Maybe i should watch it in full?

Martyrs was scene after scene of misery and was really starting to wonder if there was any point to it, glad i stuck with though

Edit - i think this from Wiki sums it up "Total Film awarded the film two stars out of five, finding the film's shock hype not to be fully deserved: "...a film that was slightly silly and none-too-distressing to begin with. Works best as a reflection on modern day porn's obsession with masochism and humiliation"

Interesting you mention Salo. Can't say I found it particularly disturbing - actually viewed it as a black comedy because it was so ridiculous (?). Dunno if it's a generation thing given the film was made in the 70's (?) but it really didn't bother me; nor have similar films that have followed. It's just too detached from reality to actually be disturbed by... okay so there's some people in fascist italy in a mansion eating shit... and what?

EDIT: Another shout of a film (which tbh I didn't find disturbing but I imagine some would on here may and probably haven't heard of) is man bites dog. It's a belgium or french black comedy mocumentary about a team of journalists following a serial murder/ sex offender. I know one person who had to stop watching it because they found it too disturbing, but each to their own, I thought it was cracking.

Have you seen martyrs?

Aye this one always springs to mind. Disturbing in many ways but watching it as a young 'un I was expecting the 'cavalry' to arrive from the mainland and save him - that's how films are supposed to end. But they didn't. And he died. Horribly in a fire
*surely I've not spoiled that for anyone?

Cheers ow.

The original Halloween film is on sky Halloween channel now.

Could never watch that alone, when it first came out.

Now I know the mask is taken from captain Kirk's face, it changes the whole thing

Blimey some of the films mentioned, just the write up sent the creeps up me, wtf would anyone wanna make that Serbian thing or martyrs:eek:
