Sea is harder than a lake but generally easier. I swam an iron distance in a lake in 75 minutes, 2.4 miles. I'm in the middle of results for my swim, bang average. Some people are out first. I reckon i could do a mile in around 32 minutes in a 25m pool - front crawl.dunno really , currents ? weight of suit ? may call in aquatic tonight after work as not running all week . what sort of time do you do a mile in dan ? and what people up your club doing ? How often does everyone have to deal with 'bellends' when lane swimming? Seems to be quite regular for me. Last night, turned at the wall, faced with two lads swimming towards me side by side, I had to stop while one moved over, got a 'uh....sorry mate'. Then for the rest of the session they did two lengths, had a chat at the end for 5 minutes then repeated. Didn't leave me much room at the end to turn either.
On the plus side it makes me swim faster as I get riled
never been man handled yet! Only place I've never had any bother is in the lido, guess the just above 20 degrees water keeps the non-regular swimmers away! Role on April when it opens.Lane swimming etiquette is appalling everywhere I've ever been. Loads of people (usually blokes) clearly in the wrong lane, not leaving any space for people to turn etc. The most annoying was a woman swimming away from the rope grabbing my leg and complaining that I'd come too close to her when overtaking - 'maybe if you moved over ffs' (or swim in the correct lane so people weren't overtaking you so much).
Guess it's like most things, people in their own little bubble, oblivious to the big slow, medium, fast signs and the direction of swim.People don't know what to do compared to swimmers.
the raich carter is worse for that as the "regulars" who go for a leisurely social paddle hog the lanes completely and tut if you dare swim fastHow often does everyone have to deal with 'bellends' when lane swimming? Actually, those are morons. But lane etiquette is hard to know if you've not been told.never been man handled yet! Only place I've never had any bother is in the lido, guess the just above 20 degrees water keeps the non-regular swimmers away! Role on April when it opens.

People really are as thick as a castle wall, pushing off as you are coming in to turn when it is clear you are quicker than them. Best place I have been is Hackney Lido, the pool attendants do not suffer fools in there, if you are not up to the lane you are in, out you go. The downside it, it’s brutal and full of bearded triathlete.Lane swimming etiquette is appalling everywhere I've ever been. Aye, one of the lads that was causing me grief last week turned up in my lane last night. Fuck knows why he keeps coming into mine, I'm always in a medium lane and he's slow as fuck. Him and his mate kept doing that last week, pushing off together just before I got to the end, so I have to stop my clock and wait for the knackers to do a length. Lifeguards don't give a shit.People really are as thick as a castle wall, pushing off as you are coming in to turn when it is clear you are quicker than them. I've found Guildford Lido to be the best, not that the lifeguards give a shit there either, it just seems to keep the knackers away. Full of triathletes too but they wouldn't be seen dead in a medium lane

Guildford Lido is 'supposedly' heated to 24 degrees April-September. I've only ever gone in with just shorts but the first time I went in it was bitter, it's been reasonable since. It's open the rest of the year for lane swimming but only heated to 14 degrees!Unfortunately I don't own a wetsuit and don't swim often enough to justify getting one. I've been in Brockwell park lido just in shorts once - fuck that.

It's 50m as well, which I find much better.
Hackney is heated so you are kept just above hypothermia levelsThat's the problem I have. I'm a solid middle lane swimmer but loads of blokes just will not go in the slow lane even if they can barely swim.
