Non League Football

Gonna be at least 6-7 years before Shields could make the main leagues and their ground would need a massive upgrade if it ever happened. These days you need to get at least 10000 inside to compete in the lower leagues so quit worrying about competition. Just this weekend would be nice to see the local team beat the one from Teeside

No the boundaries changed in 1974, all the council's and the borough's went. I don't know what happened in the South of Durham but that's when Sunderland and South Tyneside were no longer Co Durham

Cleveland was apparently abolished in 1996:eek:. I must have missed that.

Best of luck to South Shields but fot this one I hope Hartlepool win for no other reason than I live closer to Hartlepool than I do South Shields and have a few mates who support them.

Got to say it'll be an interesting game there tomorrow and if it weren't for the fact that SAFC have kindly sent some free tickets to my workplace for tomorrow's match I'd probably have gone to that game instead.

So out off 3000 shields fans there on saturday, how many would be at the SOL if shields weren't playing ? A couple of hundred maximum in my opinion

I hope shields win just because they are the underdog. If pools win, then I hope they go on to some giant killing.

Can't understand how much hatred people have in their hearts for local lower league teams. It's pathetic. Other than Newcastle, I wish the best for every local team every weekend. Especially against the odds.

100% agree ... I think a lot of it is jealousy mind.

Our fans have had years of putting up with utter shit and seeing such a small local club make massive strides in recent years brings out the jealous wankers in our support.

I play in the lower leagues and I am heavily involved in grassroots football - I love seeing local sides climbing the ladder and making a success of themselves.

We need more North East teams higher up the pyramid and it's looking good at the minute with Shields, Spenny and Blyth.

People need to calm down and stop seeing Shields as a threat ... yes they will take a few fans from both us and the mags but in a 3000 capacity stadium the effect is minimal.

Also the best they can hope for imo is conferance football or League 2 at a massive push with some good fortune along the way.

Anyone slagging them off is a monumental bellend .... I'll be playing on Saturday so won't see the game but will be hoping for a Shields win

If Hartlepool win i'll be supporting them in the next round as they're a North East team

very understandable why most mackems would be supporting hartlepool

they see shields as a much bigger threat to sunderland than hartlepool in the way of declining revenue and declining attendances

as one owner is bringing a club to it's knees another owner is creating hope and belief

it's the perfect storm really

onwards and upwards versus downwards and administration

choose shields

South Shields will never be as big as Sunderland, Newcastle or even the Boro ... Maybe Hartlepool but thats as big as you will get

Any of your fans who think otherwise are thick as mince

Quite long winded to tell us you play footy, but nobody is jealous, shields are a threat to nobody.I think its because sone people are getting a bit bored and pissed off with the constant mouthing off from so called Sunderland fans and some even chosing to watch shields as opposed to Sunderland.
Our club is wobbling so we dont need to hear shields gob shites

It's amazin how we always kop this loads of support from outside of the town crap.
What well supported big city club doesn't have a large fan base from outside?
Look at your Man U's and Liverpool, the London are from all ower the place.
How many people from the strict city limits of Newcastle go to the match?
So they don't come in from Gateshead, Wallsend, Tynemouth, North Shields , Whitley Bay, Blyth, Ashington, Hebburn, Jarrow, South Shields, County Durham, Northumberland, The Tyne Valley?
Why is it that Sunderland always kops this?
I would hazard a gues that more people from Sunderland go to the match than do from Newcastle.

Townies are notorious for being tight bastards who would rather watch it on the telly ... even quinn said so

must admit I was dubious with this sudden Shields craze and very critical (still am) of their handling of floodlight-gate, all that aside I took it upon myself to go and watch them for the first time vs York City in the FA Cup 2 weeks and really enjoyed it. Genuine feel good factor around the place and everyone seemed friendly and some hard working folk at the club who seem to be very well respected. Obviously I don't wish them well tomorrow but after this tie, good luck to them.

i think you need a bit of perspective mate. its 2 or 3 posters maximum who are enthusiastic about shields. most other people are either indifferent or would like to see them do well. if you are 'bored' or 'pissed off' then simply dont open the thread. its a much bigger deal on this board than it is in real life.

What's the point of not opening threads you numpty?

I've refereed when I was younger and played non-league for years ... that was one line in my whole post.

Anyways i've never been a season ticket holder because my saturdays have always been taken up by playing it myself or refereeing other games - I just go to our games when I can.

What I was trying to say is that I have a massive love for none league and not many people do unless they are involved in it.

Suddenly the Shields fans are experiencing it and they are absolutely loving it. It's proper football without the modern day pampered footballers detached from the fans.

You can go in the club house and have a pint with the players after the game, Julio Arca et al.

Shields will never be a threat so Sunderland regardless of what any of their fans say so just chill out and let them enjoy their success whilst it lasts

Any Sunderland fan who is jealous of them and bites is a complete tit, i'm genuinely embarrassed for them and if they haven't yet then they need to go and experience a non-league game

They might not have the love for that club that they do for Sunderland but I can bet you the a lot of them will enjoy the game more than the shite that is served up at Sunderland. Players on 50k a week with no heart bottling tackles or players flying into tackles for the desire to win and the love of the game earning a pittance in comparison.
