Surely the original decision has to stand. What would of happened if it had rained and the game ended early instead of the crossbow incident ending it early.
Middlesex should of made sure they were up to the required rate.

I have a bit of sympathy with this one as generally you know it's going to rain or there is a good chance of it, you can't really predict a crossbow stopping the game
I have zero sympathy. Bowl your f***ing overs quick enough.

Aye. And as Marty tweeted the difference between this and Durham's case is that DCCC didn't have any cash for lawyers and so got stuffed .....
Agree with @eddyfinn on this, if you're aware of the weather forecast that it isn't going to rain then you control what you can control. I've no doubt Middlesex we're going to get the over rate sorted by the end, but I'm fairly certain the weather forecasters did NOT include raining crossbows in their report.

Points deductions for Durham in all competitions and a heavy fine. Next international match at the Riverside moved to December 23rd with a 3;45am start.
Game can end at any time for a whole host of reasons. Admittedly a crossbow attack is a rare reason and wholly unpredictable, but the fact remains when the game was halted they were behind their over rate.
I would take the over rate out of the hands of the umpires and give it to the 3rd official with a penalty to applied after every innings if behind the rate. That would stop it once and for all as slow over rates detract form the spectators enjoyment of the game.

Many years ago I lived in London and went to the Oval to watch Surrey on numerous occasions when Alec Stewart was a promising young cricketer (and, unbelievably now, Surrey were absolutely skint). Back then Kennington wasn't an area you wanted to be out in when it was dark. Has much changed since?
