Vaux

At the end of the day we've been let down massively by the powers that be. Aside from our magnificent coastline, which in my opinion has been massively underutilized for decades now, the one thing Sunderland had going for it was its industrial heritage on a river that could and should have been developed to preserve that history.

These clowns have overseen the tearing down and razing of every last reminder of what made Sunderland great. How anyone who has any real love and pride in this City can forgive them for that is beyond me.
In lieu of a good summation of events in this post ^^^^, I think we can all agree that things are looking up for Sunderland, and the first port of call should be increasing white collar workers in the city centre. The Vaux site represents a great opportunity to get people to spend money in the city centre and the more people with disposable income the more leisure facilities will improve in time. Oh and the Fat Buddha is mint even if they haven't filed down the corners so it doesn't look boxy.

Plus we've always got the cable cars from the Vaux site over to newly developed Sheepfolds leisure site in a few years to look forward to. Haway Sunlun.

Like what? Thats just a load of vague soundbites.

Oh and for the 4th time, the promotory do you like it?

ffs man! If the council done nothing with the Vaux site they would get slated, now given they actually secured a huge investment contract and construction has been happening on the site they are getting slated too! can't win!

@Boris Bear @Wilfy
We could aim for something better than a box.

That fat budda looks like a shoebox, it’s horrific and uninspiring. I just got back from London today where loads of new buildings are ground breaking. We don’t even try.

Let me guess...we need cranes?

Why don't you then?

You should probably compare us to similar sized cities and then compare it to new build restaurants rather than nice buildings in the capital. Absolutely daft to call it horrific mind. Uninspiring, fair enough, but horrific?. Take a look at Colemans in Shields for example. The old building part looks canny, but the new part they've added looks just like the Fat Buddha except a dodgy shape.

Don't understand the concept that Sunderland council isn't trying though. The new bridge could have just been a bog standard road.

To be fair, anything that's not a box is a dodgy shape to SC

Can't wait to zoom to the a19 roundabout and wait a bit longer!

There's quite a bit of derelict buildings in the city centre that's prime development sites.
E.g The buildings in sunniside like those opposite that arabesque restaurant, have remained in a derelict state for so many years. It's like they've been land banked.......forever!
Although I understand CPOs aren't possible in every circumstance, people notice these buildings and form opinions on Sunderland from this. Surely getting student accommodation would be preferable to their gradual decline. I would like to see the ownership of these buildings discussed more in public forums. It's these places that Sunderland detractors use to form opinions
I love Sunderland it's the council that I dislike.

I think everyone acknowledges mistakes have been made, but I do think they are trying to rectify the problems of the past
I think we've all got to stick together, make our voices heard and support Sunderland
I really think the citizens of Sunderland need to demand better deals for Sunderland regionally and nationally

So 20 plus 10 million equals 30 million. If SCC approved an extension to my house I would be happy; if they underwrote it to the tune of £30 million I would be ecstatic.
We're just playing a game here aren't we ?

What kind of house in Sunderland has a £30m extension on it like?
More change afoot in sunderland city centre
