England Lions Squad

As puzzling as the senior squad selection.

Proof too, that Newell DOES have a conflict of interest. f***ing wanker.

So, Rory Burns passes 1,000 runs for the fourth consecutive year in Championship cricket (arguably harder than ever these days, due to lack of First-Class matches), yet doesn't even get in the Lions squad.

Unfuckingbelievable.

Good to see the Vird (Amar Virdi) in there, however. A very decent prospect.

On the best pitch in England like.

All batsmen are proven in that Lions squad so hard to see how Burns could be fitted in. Virdi 6 wickets at 45 ?- difficult to justify that selection.

I'd of had Burns in before Joe Clarke, who's had plenty of chances for the Lions and done nowt
They obviously expect him to come good eventually
Some of the familiar faces have been left out, Billings, Dawson, Bell-Drummond, Alsop but Clarke survived

Coughlin was involved with the Lions last winter as well so not really surprising

He's barely played a game this season and when he has he's been mediocre at best - so it is massively surprising. The only unsurprising element is when you factor in Newell.

From 8 championship games 36 with the bat(3 half centuries) and 29 with the ball(2 fifers and a 10fer)

I thought he'd been average, but tbh he's done decent enough when ya look at the stats.

Aye, decent enough like in fairness. Probably just because his performances have been nowhere near what we were expecting.

Anyway, still shouldn't be in the squad ahead of Plunkett. f***ing joke he isn't in the main squad, nevermind the Lions.

Maybe it's what he did in the T20's where he was poor with the ball ... although again in fairness he played ahead of my expectations with the bat.

Bell-Drummond has never kicked on like

I just meant people go on as if it shouldn't count them doing well in favourable conditions

To make out Burns has ever been the cricketer Onions was is a bit worrying, not even close.

If you look at stats Joe Leach at Worcester has been probably the outstanding young all rounder on the county circuit over the past 2 or 3 years, but whenever I have seen him he looks nothing special.
I suppose its the thing about being a test selector deciding who is a very good county cricketer and who has that x factor to succeed at international level.
