Division one relegation

Its quite good to see Notts messing it up but fir Durhams sake it would be better if they went up. Next seasons division 2 could be very difficult with them and the two relegated sides.

Tbh I think it will be a while before we are challenging for promotion so in the meantime there's nowt like a bit schaenfreude at the expense of Newell & Co.

Wonder if Coggs is getting his sicknote ready for their 4 day trip to the Riverside in 2018.

Speaking of which...Hampshite 13-3 v Warwicks 188.:D

Points deductions incoming for Somerset and Northants.....

Not sure whether this is serious or not, as I've not heard owt about Northants, however the pitch panel has been called to Taunton and a decision WILL be made tonight on whether points will be deducted for a poor pitch.

It's barmy, but imagine if Hampshite stay up TWO years running because teams were deducted points........

Hampshite 102-8 at Edgbaston.

Hampshire 116 all out, trailing by 76 runs.

I've not said too much about the county game (being an Essex follower since the likes of Graham Gooch, Ray East, Nobby Phillip, etc, there's been nothing to shout about until the past couple of seasons, and now would look like bragging) but this would be so funny if Hampshire took the tumble. I think every cricket fan outside of Hmapshire, and a fair few inside, would feel a sense of karma.

Nothing would surprise me with Bransgrovshire. It would be incredibly harsh, especially seeing as Northants are away.....

You're County Champions the season after being promoted and you have been far and away the best team. You've had nowt to shout about of late as you mentioned and so you are more than entitled to brag.

So brag away marra! Plus, I think Essex will be a pretty popular champion on this board anyway.

Nobody else would've been any good to us

First County Championship when Graham Gooch hasn't been in the side. Plenty of players brought through the youth ranks and a stroke of luck getting Chris Silverwood. It's nothing flash or special, but they all clearly enjoy each others company and have an attitude of not beaten until the last ball is bowled.

Just as instrumental was the ousting of chief exec David East a few years ago. He was very much a jobs for the boys, if your face fits type. He scrapped the Southend Festival week, which was the only time the club were making money, so now it's one game at Colchester and the rest at Chelmsford. Memberships were right down until he was removed.

Ooh, I almost forgot.I also thoroughly enjoyed last week's turnaround against Hampshire. If that helps put them down, they would have done English cricket a bigger service than winning any championship could.

Many moons ago I played for Basildon & Pitsea thirds in the Essex League. Left handed leg spinner and a definite number 11 with the bat but was surprisingly agile at cover point. I was no bloody good but neither were any of the teams we played so it was an enjoyable way to spend a summer afternoon.

Back on topic - Somerset win, Hampshire lose and everything is right with the world. Justice and karma in perfect harmony.

That said, if Hampshire do finish 7th, Somerset will be deducted points for a substandard pitch - because a decision was supposed to have been made today, but now the pitch inspector has said he will wait until the match is over to announce the outcome........ Which doesn't sound suspicious at all.

Bransgrove has made the call lads.

Every year I was tipping Essex for promotion. So many quality players but you kept missing out.
Finally you made it and storm to the title.
I'm delighted for you H.D.
Enjoy it before you lose Lawrence, Porter etc. to England ;)

Hildreth and Abell doing perfectly fine. If they are deducted points then the game is rigged.

Why should spinning pitches lead to points deductions anyway? Moan about england players not being able to play spin then moan cos a pitch spins from day 1.

So much for the toss rule and encouraging spinners to be developed. May as well tell Bess and Leach to fuck off and become builders.

As I understand it, the rule last year was that excessive seam on Day 1 was punishable. However excessive spin was not. This year though, after what Somerset did last season with their pitches - excessive spin has now been outlawed.

So it isn't so much that turn and spin is discouraged, it just has to allow for some competition between bat and ball.

In fairness, I also have always felt that pitches that are as flat as a pancake should also be outlawed.

Notts fighting back, looking like getting a draw now :(

Warwickshire also doing their best to let Hampshite back in the game :(
