Ashes Squad

Away from the fast bowling problems, what's the sudden love in for Crane all about? Only taken 16 wickets at over 41 apiece this season, seems a long way away from being a test match cricketer at the minute.

Vince is class, I've seen him play for Hampshire this year and he's far too good for the domestic circuit.

In Australia, you get good value for playing shots.

He averages 31 on the domestic circuit since he was dropped by England.

I'd say averaging 100 makes you far too good. But that's just me.

Without getting into the ins and outs of it, if Stokes is out, what do we do squad wise.

I look at the squad without him, and you ain't going to replace his quality, but I really think you need another leader in there, someone people can look up to.

Was thinking who they can bring in, who has been in big situations in international cricket, with leadership qualities.

Will go against what I have said previosuly, and send a few crazy, but I would really bring in Buttler. All the arguments about no red ball cricket are correct, but he still averages 30 odd in tests, which is better than most who have come in, and I'd have him in the squad as a batsman. He is made of tough stuff as we saw in Bangladesh.

I don't see who else is out there with the right charachter, obviously you need players who can score runs or take wickets, but this tour just got 10 times harder, both on and off the field, so we need someone who can handle that. And most importantly has played a lot of international cricket. Funnily enough my 1st replacement would be his mate who will also not go, Hales.

People like Trott and Bell are no goes, and the rest of the one day set up to me doesn't look up to it, Morgan and Roy, no chance.

There are some bowlers like, Plunkett or Finn who could go instead I guess.

Interested to know people's opinions.

My outside pick, and this is outside the box, would be Tim Bresnan, who I think is a great cricketer still.

Botham rolling out the line about the Aussies batting being so poor.

In Australia tests averages of a possible 11.

Renshaw 63.00
Warner 59.21
Smith 68.65
Khawaja 63.73
Handscomb 99.25
Maxwell not played
Wade 32.90
Starc 29.28
Pattinson 39.75
Hazlewood 22.40
Lyon 14.30

Khawaja is absolute dynamite in Australia, world class in those conditions, he will bat 3.

Nobody replied to my response above, who would you replace Stokes with?

I'd take Buttler and Plunkett.
