New Music Releases Thread

Thursday.
Tuesday for me

Just back from End of the Road with my school report (having missed Friday, which kinda sucks!)

New (to me) stuff worth checking out:
Tides of Man - a postrock band from Tampa
The Burning Hell - Canadian comedy indie types (think Jeffrey Lewis with more laughs)
TootArd - from Golan Heights (so Syrian). Sort of desert rock with ska-ish influences.
Vaudou Game - singer's from Togo, most of the band are French. They do Afro-funk stuff.

Also realised I'd never seen or heard King Khan & the Shrines before. They're tremendous live and the King himself is marvellously costumed!

More familiar to this thread: Ryley Walker, Jens Lekman, Xylouris White, Nadine Shah, HMLTD, Let's Eat Grandma, Ty Segall, Car Seat Headrest (especially Car Seat Headrest!), Rolling Blackouts Coast Fever, Timber Timbre, Julia Jacklin, Foxygen, Perfume Genius and Bill Callahan were all cool. Baxter Dury seems to be a twat!
I'm very much enjoying Tides of Man. I'm not sure how I had never heard of them to be honest!

So tomorrow's new releases. Obviously, the highlight for most of us is the new album by The National but there are also new albums by Sparks, Alvvays, The Dream Syndicate, Chad VanGaalen, Jack Johnson, Ted Leo (making me happy), Tori Amos, Zola Jesus, Toby Keith, Wild Cub, Tony Allen, Superfood, Sean McConnell, Rostam, Nick Mulvey, Neil Young (the lost album Hitchhiker), Mount Kimbie, Living Colour, Deerhoof, Gregg Allman (his final album), Death From Above, Beaches, The Waterboys, David Ramirez, Micah P Hinson, Larry Campbell & Theresa Williams and Alex Cameron.

I'm going to confess that I've never heard The National, I take it they should be one of my picks today? Living Colour is the other one, and (not new) I'm going to check out the album by Counting Coins who supported the Real McKenzies last night. They describe themselves as ska-hiphop-gypsy-punk and they had loads of energy on stage.

On an aside, how do smaller bands make any cash? It was £10 a ticket last night, and you'd be lucky if there were 100 people there so that's a grand. They have to pay for the venue and give them a cut, they have the guy who was manning the tshirt stall, and the local band who was supporting. Then there were 5 members of Counting Coins and 6 members of the Real McKenzies to take a cut. TBF I read that Glasgow tomorrow night is sold out, and I'm assuming Edinburgh tonight will have a decent turnout so it's probably swings and roundabouts

The national album is class as expected, looking forward to hearing the rostam album too, liked the singles from it so far.

edit: looks like the rostam album isnt out until next friday

They don't.

It is. The rest of their stuff seems to be jangle by numbers though.

They wouldn't be in any way successful if they didn't have a good looking blonde lass as a singer. Harsh but true. It gets you places.
