T20 is killing Proper Cricket

Wasn't really like that though, the future tours through to 2016 were negotiated way back in 2009 and the ICC didn't schedule any windows for any T20 tournaments. Wasn't really down the the ECB.

Fair enough, but like you say they were slow on the up take, and did not embrace it with the same pace as other countries.

Yet the ECB allowed the ODI skipper (not just a player but th skipper) to miss internationals in that period? Zero consistency I'm afraid.

Surely that totally depends on the situation, some of the tests in the sub-continent over the years have been incredibly boring to watch, with dead wickets and slow scoring and inevitable draws.

Everyone to their own I guess but I can't understand anybody wanting to watch say Hameed bat for over after over, rather than watch a Jason Roy or a Jos Buttler in full flow.

Surely the former players are more entertaining to watch?

Equally a compelling Ashes series will always be more entertaining and better to watch than any limited over game.

To me, that is the opinion of someone who doesn't really like cricket. No offence or owt.

Wasn't that v Ireland?

No offence taken, but I think you will find a lot of cricket lovers prefer to watch Buttler over Hameed.

Just like there preferred to watch a Botham over a Boycott

Cricket fans and lovers imo, have always wanted to watch players play big shots it's nothing new.

It's what got people off their seats well before T20.

Yes. If you read KP book he was barely allowed to miss a warm up game never mind an international fixture.

Meh, a game against an associate nation.

If you want to go and play in the IPL don't sign your central contract, simple as that. Is there anywhere in his book where he states he would have been happy to give up his £1m+ a year to do that? I bet there isn't.

I get that

Sometimes we all prefer a burger to a steak

People like penalty shootouts, I prefer football. Watching a batsman fight against a hostile attack in unfriendly conditions is one of the greatest spectacles in any sport. South Africa v Atherton is miles ahead of anything any T20 game has ever or will ever produce.

But we've had this discussion before, so let's not go round again. T20 cricket is better than no cricket......

We have mate, guess for me there is no right or wrong answer just a question of preference, but I don't think it makes someone a lesser lover of cricket for wanting to see the ball hit out of the park, it's just their preference.

And each preference should be respected, rather than belittled in a snobbish way, which I do find on here sometimes (not by you I may add)

I don't mind people preferring test cricket that's their choice, but I do object to the reference that limited cricket is somehow watched by less intelligent people with less knowledge of cricket.

Of course not as he naturally wanted to have his cake and eat it, a bit like other countries were doing and subsequently the England team whos board were so opposed it.

county season is pretty much april/may/september. absolutely shite. i'm not seeing any improvement in the national test side as well, little wonder given the daft scheduling for red ball cricket

Only going to get worse mate, but thats what the counties want so they can play their one day stuff in the height of summer. Not long before two division cricket and you only play the other county once.

Just no appeal to me watching red ball cricket in April and September. I've hardly been this season. T20 overkill during the core of summer. 8 county fixtures completed before July and 4 more from 28th aug - 28th september, absolutely shambolic. who the fuck wants to be playing red ball cricket on september 28th??
