I find it a bit bizarre that calliper brakes evolved into V brakes which evolved into disc brakes, yet some road cyclists are so obsessed with saving a few grams that they'd rather go back to the Stone Age with pedal back brakes or take the front ones off altogether. Might make a difference if you're Jason Kenny chasing thousands of a second but to normal people it makes fuck all difference.

I know a few overweight runners who crave faceyb attention who have posted photos of them weighing their trainers, boasting of having luxury lightweight ones.

There are some lovely people down there, but the majority are self-absorbed and have no time for anyone but themselves. I lived there for 20 years. The amount of times I've seen people mugged/attacked/hurt in accidents and every fucker just walks past like it's none of their business.

I saw an old man fall off one of them open back buses (routemasters) into the buslane and people were just stepping over him to get on the bus.

I ran out into the road, stopped the traffic and started dialling 999. A woman also started dialling so I hung up, took my jacket off and put it over him, and guarded him from traffic. He was KO and it was slightly raining. This was on Streatham High Road, a constant stream of cars and buses flying past him.

I couldn't not help mate. I dinnar what it is with some people. Us mackems must just be built differently.

The bloke was about 80.
