Sussex putting Surrey to the sword.

We are shite.

I'm well aware of the irony of me complaining on a site dominated by Durham supporters (and believe me if there was one group of cricket followers who were downright f***ing appalled by the way the ECB shat on Durham, it was everyone I know at Surrey - as was made clear when we played Hampshire), but this season is so f***ing frustrating.

We've won ONE game in the Championship all season - first game at home to Warwickshire, who are f***ing hopeless. At least 3 games that we've drawn (Waricks away, Lancashire home, Essex away) we've held on by the skin of our teeth (and on two occasions been helped by weather) to draw.
We got to the One Day Cup final (again, I'm well aware I'm sounding like a c*nty Arsenal supporter complaining about 4th here) but we shouldn't have even got out the group, and it was only a couple of freakish results, bad weather and results in other games helping us that got us out of the group stages, coupled with hitting a bit of form.

In the T20, for all the money we've spent, were horrendous. Having Borthwick, Foakes Henriques (never done it for Surrey) as three of your top 6 in T20 cricket is piss poor. Our bowlers have bailed us out a few times, but it can't keep happening. The irony is, in T20 we looked at our best at the start - before the "stars" came in, and we actually had players who cared about playing for Surrey. Fuck Henriques, fuck Pietersen.

Even transfers - replacing Dom Sibley with Rikki Clarke is a f***ing joke. And the fact that no one (even Batty) knew about it says it just screams of Alec Stewart doing his own thing and fuck the rest of us.

I couldn't give a fuck if we bring in the most income, or if we get The Oval expanded to 40k. I just wanna see a Surrey team who play for the brown cap like it means something.

Fuck these f***ing mercenary wankers.

Blimey, interesting post that.

Whilst I can't begin to understand truly what's going on down there, it has to be proof that you can't simply buy success. Or atleast not immediately.

Of the players you've brought in since last season, who would you say has been a success and who would you genuinely prefer to see let go? It seems that a lot of money has been wasted on 'superstars' who haven't improved the side.

I still think you'll qualify for the T20 knockout stages mind.

What's more, I think you will also see some success. If the club continue to throw money around as they have done, I'm certain they'll get it right at some stage. There's possibly only Yorkshire with the same spending power and so far they seem to be able to use it more wisely than your procurement team.

We're shit anall. Our problems are different though. Out of form batsmen, aging bowlers, the wrong coaching appointments after the departure of one of our most successful coaches in our history.

Most worrying is the lack of talent coming through. Or rather the talent is there but not bring managed or coached properly.

In terms of those bought in - Rocky has been outstanding, Borthwick would struggle to get into a village side. In terms of the "superstars" - I'd happily kick Pietersen back to wherever the twats playing next. I despise having him around. The only notable thing I've ever seen Henriques do in a Surrey shirt was KOing Rory Burns. Finch is Finch - one game hell fire and look brilliant, the next he'll play a daft shot and get out early - just a typical T20 player. I've banged on about our academy on here, as do the club - I'd much rather see us put youth out, instead of just bringing in big names in the hope of shifting tickets.

As for success - I've seen Surrey win one trophy in my lifetime. My first season as a Member, we got relegated from Division One without winning a single game. I don't expect us to be Champion County every year, or constantly winning cups, I've never seen that Surrey so I don't expect it. But it turns my stomach just seeing us bring in mercenaries every year, solely to get all the city workers in for a bit of profit.

I was at Reigate last week for the Gareth Batty Testimonial, and how true all of this is I can't be sure - but everything that was being said was depressing. Apparently Di Venuto isn't happy because Alec Stewart has an attitude of "this is my club, we do things how I want". By all accounts Borthwick and Stoneman are incredibly disillusioned with what they've joint, and some of the guys in the squad who've been here a few years (Jade, Batts etc) can't get on with any of the new coaches. As I say, how true all that is I honestly don't know, but with everything else going on it seems to add up.
The club seem to think they can just throw money at a problem to fix it - sport doesn't work like that.

Could well be us v you to avoid going down with Warwickshire mate!

Well, I genuinely have sympathy for you - you've been a welcome addition to this forum and you talk sense, for that reason it doesn't make me happy to see you upset about the awful mismanagement of your beloved county. Mind, your problems still aren't a patch on our problems ;).

Surrey as an entity themselves can fuck off though .

Stoneman and Borthwick unhappy? Wow, can't say that isn't a surprise actually. Many on here felt it wasn't the right move cricket wise and I think it's fair to say a lot of Durham fans will be enjoying that piece of schadenfreude.

They could always ask Beefy politely to come back

this is all abit reasonable, you feeling right brandon?

i agree, it's a shame to hear stoneman & borthwick not happy with their moves. whilst i'm gutted they left i don't hold it against them. wish them both well.

likwise nowt personal against surrey supporters, can't help where you're born.

I can be as compassionate as the best of them when I want y'knar ;)

Hope you dinnit mind me asking @TheRey but what you doing on here? You Sunderland fan down south or just happened upon this place for cricket craic??

Haha, thanks mate! Never thought I'd get compassion on here ;)

I'm actually on my way back from Taunton, and we are hopeless. The players don't look arsed, there's no buzz in the outfield and on two occasions, Batty has had full blown arguments on the outfield with teammates, and the cricket I've seen in the last five days (including the Glamorgan T20) has been little short of embarrassing. We're toothless with the ball, and brainless with the bat!

Lost again. Yorkshire of the south.
Yorkshire aren't this bad fella!

Relegation shoot out at the Oval? ;)

Hope you dinnit mind me asking @TheRey but what you doing on here? You Sunderland fan down south or just happened upon this place for cricket craic??
I'm actually a Palace fan mate! (Palace and Surrey. It's a wonder I'm not in an asylum...)
I had a nose on PF after the 4-0 at Selhurst, realised there was a cricket bit, seemed like good craic so though I'd join in!

Jesus, that's bad ......

and you're welcome on here, always good to hear an opinion from a different perspective.

A Yorkie and a Surrey fan arguing about who is worse  Believe me you can't get worse than our surrender against Essex. Shameful. Looking like the relegation decider at The Oval is very much on.

Batty has always seemed like a right **** but I was never sure if I was blinkered as a Yorkshireman seeing one of "ours" go darn sarf to captain our main rival in terms of titles and the chalk and cheese nature of the two areas.

Probably music to the ears of the majority of followers of County cricket :D yeah I saw about that, similar to our capitulation against them at Guildford.

I like Batts. Really nice guy off the pitch, been good for us over the years, but he should go. He's clearly not happy, he's been on the same for a while and his captaincy is shite (personally I think he takes a huge chunk of the blame for our Lord's defeat this year).
Only issue is that this is where Zafar has fucked us, because Borthwick has repeatedly shown he can't become our sole spinner...

It was a bad move for Borthwick, he never bowls, and I imagine he will get dropped from the 4 day stuff eventually
