I'm just highlighting this constant use of a 'current major trophy'. The Fairs Cup was a pre-cursor to the UEFA Cup, there's no need to claim it wasn't simply because your local rivals won it.

It's still the European cup. That's how Madrid have won it 10 times, Liverpool 5 etc. It's like saying the World Cup only started in 1970 when it was no longer the Jules rimet. The Fairs cup isn't the UEFA and I'm not saying that because yous won it.

I'm always fair in my assessments and don't let daft bias cloud my judgement. Just because you got a clip off a few mags back in 80s doesn't mean you need to hold a grudge forever and a day:

That's very much a worst case scenario, which I understand, but it's not the most likely.

Fair enough. I'm still classing it as a major trophy though, current or not.

It's not current, as you've just said.

It was also not the major trophy at that time, that was the European Cup.

It wasn't and was never thought of as such at the time.

In the year Newcastle won the Fairs Cup teams would simply fail to show up for matches and games were decided on the toss of a coin.

UEFA didn't even recognise the competition, never mind regard it as 'major'.

FIFA claimed it was a major trophy only after racists like Rous joined and decided to attempt to justify their part in organising it.
