seems like they have awarded them in the most part to British firms so that's a good thing. they get loads of it back in taxes that way
Aye there was a contract awarded to a company that had people previously high up in HS2 LTD.Alls good as long as done fairly.

Good move.

Here's hoping that those companies don't soon arrange for their accountants to get it out of the country tax-free.

Wonder which friends of the government got those contracts.I remember someone had to relinquish a contract the other month due a conflict of interest.
Carilion, Balfour Beaty, Bouygues and Skanska. Carilion had a significant drop in price a week or two ago so if anyone's looking to make money... xcite.

Already gone up by 0.54% from typing the above

I think their decision to employ people in the cheapest employment zones within the UK will counteract some of the adverse effects of Brexit.

Very controversial and divided opinion down here whether this is worth the money or not. Equally some people like myself we're adversely affected by the decision.
The line was planned to run a quarter of a mile from my house albeit they are tunnelling the section. No compensation on offer just a house that was initially going to lose its value and little chance to sell it.
We moved and have rented our house out however got lucky when we purchased an absolute bargain on the new house. It has been stressful I can assure you.
Some people are not so lucky.
It's the thought of many years of construction but like all major construction projects it's the unknown that kills you. Many people in the village are not worried whilst some are. Some real nice views will be spoilt and a lottery to some people that will lose money (value on assets) that they may have saved all of their life to get to.
As I said a lottery and through taking action hopefully will come out of it OK. However it has been stressful.

I just wonder how many homes could have been built with £6bn and the contracts still being awarded nationally?

Also, I think more in the private sector need to take a leaf from Musk'a book. If they think the infrastructure is that worthwhile instead of spending to lobby why not put their money where their mouth is and fund it among themselves?

I'm for it. we need high speed infrastructure to start connecting the cities.

there has been too little investment for years.

what often isn't explained is that it isn't just about saving time its to free up the exisiting network for more freight and local services.

when you have shared lines you get loads of delays. Its nto like a road where they can pass anywhere

I could understand a high speed rail to Yorkshire and Lancashire cos these places are too short for a flight but far enough away to benefit from the HS rail significantly. But Birmingham, haway ffs. It's only an hour or so as it is.

well it will. once the Brum bit is done

Divide the money between a car scrappage scheme for more polluting engines and high speed broadband infrastructure and you'd achieve a lot more than HS-2 ever will.

Exactly, see if we can get Tesla onboard and steer people toward them with the money they get from the scrappage scheme. Give them priority over Nissan's facilities when they fuck off due to Brexit

You cannit run a HS on the current lines cos they're too bendy (so I was telt).

What about the shocking level of repair on local services? Would the money not be spent better there?

Northern and Southern are both shite. The trains on the York - Harrogate - Leeds northern line are 30 year old and dropping to bits.
