The PC Brigade? Who are they, the fourth emergency service? (Sorry, Coastguard)

No, I don't think we'll have a Janice Bond since the character James Bond is constantly updated to be contemporary, whereas The Doctor is an actual alien that can regenerate their body, travel through space and time and since they're not human, I don't see why they should have to conform to human standards of what gender is or is not.

Brave decision. Good decision, I hope. Always thought there were very sensible in universe reasons for The Doctor to be a white male though, given the amount of time spent on a planet where anyone who wasn't a white male was fair game for anything, especially if they go around trying to take charge like The Doctor tends to.
They can't pretend that Victorian men will just concede to a woman, for example. It'll make it even worse if they do some handwavey bullshit like the TARDIS just fixes it. Just fixes her gender so the Romans don't hasten the arrival of the 14th Doctor? Nice.

It's just fortunate that James Bond isn't produced by the BBC.

FFS. Absolutely no problem with the Doctor being a woman, taken in isolation, but along with the constant stream of gay/bi companions and lead characters, Missy etc the whole show has become a box ticking exercise in promoting diversity.
