Benitez Future In Doubt Over Failure to Secure Key Signings

So because a manager declined us we decided to sabotage our summer by not trying to get any other managers? Then a couple of weeks later decided to completely u-turn on a decision to not bother getting another manager, and appointing one?
No what I meant was all your eggs were puclicly in the McInnes basket he said no, takeover then became the excuse while you privately sounded out others for the position without the grief for taking so long

I agree. The problem seems to be after buying these players that Ashley wants to move them on before spending large amounts on improvements and Benitez instead of selling them is unhappy about it and threatening to leave. In an ideal world a number of these players would have been sold by now and he would have the funds he was promised. For whatever reason that hasn't happened yet

I don't think that's true. It's the beginning of the window and we've made two permanent signing already without any leaving. I'm comfortably confident that the likes of Murphy and Hanley will be moved on before the window closes and that we'll bring in more than just Atsu and Lejeune. I don't think the new signings arrival will be dependent on the exit of Murphy first, do you?

Players and managers reject clubs on a daily basis. It's part of football. Clubs don't just come out with takeover talks to appease fans if it happens. Not that our club give a shit about getting grief of the fans anyway. Have you seen our kit?

Not necessarily Murphy on his own. I think you have the funds to sign players (at least the transfer fees) despite the reported ongoing haggling you had with that new defender. It's probably more of a case of shifting players on to reduce the wage bill. There was a few already on wage increases the they signed for you then promotion will have increased those again. Add the players you have returning from loan then you have a large squad with a number of reserve players commanding high wages (see us as Rodwell etc) as well as the higher wages newly promoted teams/bottom 5 strugglers (again see our players) normally need to pay to make signings. Makes sense to get those at least off the books (even if its still contributing to their wages) before splashing on more

:lol::lol::lol: They get better, there's even more of the sad knackers now, all at graft of course.

It's American Independence Day, have they claimed Washington yet?

Was highly rated in belgium. Wasnt bought as a back up it just didnt work. It was a punt like you did with Mignolet.

For what its worth I dont think the lad was given a fair go. I hope he returns stronger from loan.

You never answered the question with regards to spending. Wouldnt you rather your club put back in what was taken out?
That's not what's being discussed, it's about benitez being decidedly average throughout his whole time managing you lot, yet because he's got a bit of glitter you all wank yourselves to death about him.

My maths wrong? Pretty sure one of your lot was banging on about 13 points from 10 games which equated to 1.3 points a game (boring isn't it!) blah blah

3 points and a game off the total equals 10 points from 9 games. (Keeping up?) All relevant to the mag giving correct figures to start with the other day mind.

Basically his record up to the Spurs game wasn't much to write home about, and you'd performed pretty poorly and relegated. A thumping 5-1 with 10 men against a demoralised Spurs and he's the messiah winning relegation

I like Rafa. It's a shame he manages the mags because he's a proper good bloke. This summer is gonna be well hard for him though, having to deal with signing the lowest calibre players for a top flight season he's ever had to buy in the last 20 years. You can sense the frustration when he doesn't get his targets, a bit like Moyes last year who was used to working at a higher level. It's a big test of a manager's resourcefulness and judgement of players to put together a squad to compete with teams on much bigger budgets than they have, and a lot of managers can't hack it.

He'll probably be fine realistically and they'll walk mid-table, but it'd be pretty interesting all round if the summer was a bit dodgy, and they started off slowly with a squad he wasn't too happy with...
