Benitez Future In Doubt Over Failure to Secure Key Signings

No, of course not. As I state, Nigel Pearson isn't as good a manger as Benitez. You don't judge a man solely on a 10 match period, do you. I repeat my question as you've not answered it;

If Allardyce had failed to get the 2 points that saved you from relegation, would you have wanted Di Canio back? Or Advocaat? Or Poyet?

Benitez is a better manager than Pearson, of course he is, he's better than a lot of managers, because he's a good manager and there's a lot of shit out there.

The only thing that stops some Sunderland fans (and some Everton or Man Utd fans) from admitting that, is a deep rooted bias and a fear that by missing an opportunity to have a dig at their rival somehow diminishes their support for their own club. Which is ridiculous.
I wonder who you'd have replaced Pearson with, all hypothetical like but would have been interesting ;)

Surely Villa were already gone and not scrapping at all. They were there for the taking but Rafa had no bottle. Can't wait to see him fall apart again.

You really need to think your excuses through, you know.

Villa were scrapping for pride, as we were in the Spurs game. You could say..."We were there for the taking, but Pochettino had no bottle."

Benitez. He approached Newcastle, because he clearly saw potential in us. I'd imagine he would have been more keen were were a Premier League club for his first full season.

We did, aye.

What would be worrying for me is the best performance of Rafa's tenure in the prem for you lot was the last game of the season when you were already relegated. It's alarming that before then the performances were just not there.

Potentially a mix of poor quality and a manager not able to motivate.

Or you could spin it as we improved the longer and longer his tenure went on in a short space of time. I'd argue that getting a point at Anfield and drawing with Man City at home (their goal was miles offside as well) were decent results.

If you repeat a lie often enough, people start to believe it. The brainwashed anti rafa cult and their bitter doctrine is certainly spreading to the people who want to believe it. It comes across like some sort of knee-jerk response these days. The big cosy Rafa fails at every job comfort blanket. Hide under that when you feel a bit worried. Wasn't anywhere near this level of forensic analysis of McClaren for example, as everybody knew he was dreadful.

Course it isn't just about how much is spent. It's all in context. I'm just not sure why there's books being sold on his success when as it stands he's still unproven.

This year will be the test. Especially if he has no money but if he gets none he will probably be away so that way Ashley gets the blame and he can leave relatively unscathed

How much does it cost to build a title winning Championship side in one window? Would an average of £5m per player do it?

Didn't Tiote have a perfectly legitimate goal chalked off in the Man City game as well?

Spurs were finished man. Do you honestly think your 5-1 win with 10 men against them was a Benitez inspired performance (completely out of the norm) OR maybe Spurs were demoralised and wanted the season over?

Before that game he'd collected 10 points from 9 games, in which you played Palace, Swansea, Villa, Sunderland & Norwich and were promptly relegated. Other than Man C, Liverpool and second half v Swansea you'd been poor.

There's only one set of fans rewriting history...

:D

Didn't you 'tonk' Everton in a game where their players couldn't give a single fuck and played like they wanted their manager out?

Also, Spurs were still going for second on the last game of the season (and a finishing place above Arsenal)

Don't know. But a team spent more than us and didn't get promoted, it's not just how much money you spend that matters (although it's a good help)
I can see it now, we would have went up but we only spent £25000000 planning for next season so we even made a profit when you consider the £30000000 we got for Pickford. Completely ignore the fact we made a profit, rebuilt and won the league.

Unproven? At NUFC or as a manager?

He is so popular due to the fact he took over a failing club that was probably always going down anyway and had stopped communicating with its fan base and liked doomed to being the next Leeds etc, he then turned a profit, won the league and united the fans and club.

No messiah by any means, just a very, very good manager with a good track record.

At Newcastle. The club he's at who's reporters are writing books about him because he got promoted from the championship. He's in a worse position now than when he took over after selling all your best players and replacing them with championship players who now you can't shift, and is subsequently throwing his toys out the pram because he can't throw money at problems and might just have to use his managerial abilities to get through a tough season. Something he seemingly, for whatever reason, doesn't have the stomach for

You are dismissing Benitez' accomplishment because Benitez spent a lot of money (gross), right?

You don't think spending 55 million on players is an advantage over sides spending a tenth of that?

You could say that... and you wouldn't be far short of the truth.

The moment that Hazard screamer left his boot, Tottenham fell apart. Even Villa would have beaten them on that final day.

As for Villa playing for pride - they hadn't done so at any other point in the season; why would they suddenly start with two games to go? They were even more toothless, passionless and clueless than we were in the season just gone. You still only had one meaningful shot on target.

But don't let the truth get in the way of bias, eh?

That's not why they're writing books about him.
We're in a better position now than when he took over as we were only going one direction when he took the job, rack and ruin. Now we're headed in the opposite direction.
It's not true to say that we can't shift the players he brought in to do a job, the window hasn't closed yet, in fact it's only juts officially opened.
He's changing the philosophy of the football club and using the media to directly challenge the miserly owner and incompetent Chairman is sound strategy.
The last comment is based on deliberate misinterpretation of the truth so bears little scrutiny.

Other than that your post is spot on

We played poorly at Villa, no denying that, but the rhetoric on here is that we played negatively. That's not true.

It's not the first time Villa have raised their game against us, for reasons passing understanding. They did so when we went down in 09, they did so in that game and they did so in both fixtures in the Championship.

Best players?????
Sissoko
Jaanmat
Thauvin

Who other than the press would say these were our best players, Gini maybe as he was class in some games but disappeared in most.
Only a handful need shifting and sure they will be, probably not at much of a loss either.
Can you post Rafa's comments regarding the toys of the pram as I missed them, wasn't the same reporters who were on the SAFC German takeover story was it?

Deliberate misinterpretation of the truth? I've said spending 55 million in the championship is an advantage on other sides spending a tenth of that

If you are on the up whybis it being reported Benitez is kicking off again, as he was in Jan?

Actually I've worked it out. You've said it yourself. He's got a book about him because he's forcing Ashley to spend money

Haha give over.
Yous are a yoyo club, what's your excuse for Benitez going to be when you are relegated again this season? Newcastle have one of the weakest squads in the league atm so it's pretty likely
