Benitez Future In Doubt Over Failure to Secure Key Signings

And saying that I write for a fanzine.

It's weird.

Shut the fuck up 'Ian', strap on your Jacamo jacket and get writing that article.

Oh, now I remember why I stopped bothering to reply to you.

You've this weird thing where you're dead angry all the time, you make odd accusations and are entirely incapable of a reasoned, reasonable conversation.

B'bye Zig, try to have a better day.

Claims he is mentally ill yet it only seems to surface (on here anyway) when he is around Newcastle United fans.

Did he have huge funds at Extremadura? Tenerife? What were the huge sums he spent at Valencia? Is he singularly unique in being a manager that spends what is available to him?

The Villa argument is not a poor one and is in response to a poor argument.
Sunderland fan says "Of course you won, anyone would have won if they'd spent as much as you"
I say "Villa spent more and failed to even make the Play Offs"
They say "Who cares about Villa, we're talking about Newcastle".

That's silly and a further example of the shifting goal posts.

The money Benitez has spent was needed to build an entirely new squad. He brought in an entire 11 and sold/loaned/released a similar number. £55m in the Championship is a large figure, £5m per player for a title winning side is not a large figure. That side was built for one purpose, immediate promotion, which was achieved. Players who were signed as back-up/cover for the Championship won't feature in the Premier League and will obviously be moved on. So to say the Championship side should keep us up is almost courageously stupid...

I keep coming back to the same point. Benitez has a trophied history, he turned got a side promoted at the first time of asking and has made improvements off the pitch at the club as well. He demonstrably a good manager. If he was at literally any other football club, you wouldn't be half as critical, but your (pretty childish) bias forces you to concoct reasons to criticise him above that which is fair.

In this age, how does a manager build squad if he doesn't sign the players for them? Promoting from the youth teams? Well he's not really had an opportunity to do that yet, has he?

Also, I wasn't comparing them, please read more carefully, as it makes you look stupid when you don't.

I said past 24 months.

You spent 32m on mbemba mitrovic and Shelvey who all featured last season. He then spent a further 50m to add to those players and kept players like lascelles anita perez.

82m spend on last 2 seasons is higher than a quarter of the premier league. So why does he need more money?

Did Benitez buy any of those players like?

So a manager has to buy every single player that plays for him?

Where did I say that?

The answer is no, btw but you have to expect that a manager coming in would want to buy some players himself to compliment the existing squad so they fit into his own style of play. I mean, it's not exactly an outlandish suggestion is it?

He didn't sign any of those players. He spent £55m building a squad that could win the Championship. Which means signing squad players for that league, squad players who won't be fit for purpose in the league above. Why do you keep ignoring this crucial point?

8 am Monday morning, Sima clocks in to the rivals message board.

What a time to be alive

Stop having this weird obsession with our manager (the threads about him are bigger than the majority of ones regarding your manager only appointed on Thursday ffs ) and I'd be less inclined to contribute tbh.

One of his biggest challenges will be getting rid of those not fit for purpose.

 morning chompy

There'll no doubt be some that are nigh impossible to shift, but most featured for a title winning side and should attract interest from other clubs looking for a bit of quality, the biggest issue (whi I'm guessing you were alluding to) is whether those clubs can afford the fees/wages for someone like Grant Hanley after he's had a taste of the £££ at us.

I reckon the likes of Murphy and Gamez will take a pay-cut, but players like Hanley and Diame may be more obstinate.

Yep that's the issue for me, we know from harsh experience how difficult it can be to off load players. It's a big part of the reason we are in the shit we are in

You still writing for that shite fanzine Ian?

f***ing hell. Look at this dafty 'chomping' away first thing.

Making up shit again, like that time he claimed he knew someone that knew me. 'Keith'

Only apologised when I offered to leave here forever if he could give me my full name on here which I explicitly gave him permission to do (seems like an open goal to me). Absolute bullshitter.
What a missed opportunity that was !

This is the problem though, that's what a lot of us said at the time when we were watching you sign these players. We know very well, as we've been through it and had to sit and watch players not good enough for premier refusing to leave due to the contract / wages they are on. Its a catch 22 really, sign players on decent money to get promoted but get stuck with them potentially for the length of their contract or at very least have to pay part of their wages while on loan.

That's a big part of the shite we have been in

Your right we did try and say so at the time and I'm sure he was told he could spend what he recouped. No big money moves this season, they went last summer

Sure and don't get me wrong, it is a concern that players like Murphy are still on our books. I suppose the biggest difference is that we can afford to swallow their wages longer than most clubs, because of our financial situation. And because of our financial situation we can bring in players who'll be ahead of them in the pecking order meaning we can legitimately threaten to not even register them as part of our squad.

As it stands we've 3-4 players that should definitely not feature for us in the Premier League, but those players are, imo, attractive enough to other clubs. Murphy is a 34yr old who can still "do a job" for teams in the Championship and a team like Birmingham would benefit from his experience. Hanley is a good defender at that level and will likely attract bids, even if we cover a portion of his wages, selling him to Shef Wed would significantly improve them and significantly save us money.

Sorry missed this, see above.

It's definitely an issue, but less for us because we're pretty healthy on the financial side.
