Benitez Future In Doubt Over Failure to Secure Key Signings

He is basically back where he started 15 months ago.
He took over a team in 19th and heading for relegation. He got them organised and difficult to beat but ultimately they were still relegated. He then made a decent profit over the Summer and got them back up as champions, but with a squad full of good Championship players rather than Premiership ones. It's not a disaster, nor is it a great triumph, but this Summer should be pivotal . If he leaves this Summer I think you could say his stock as a manager (such that it was) hasn't really increased. .
Very balanced views. Somebody sensible and intelligent for once on this forum.

Good afternoon everybody. Draper,as was, here. I hope you are all well.

There seems to be an extra helping of bollocks stories around at the moment. I hope this Rafa story isn't one of them. Despite what some will predictably say on here, compared to some that have managed both clubs he's actually more than reasonably competent. While he didn't avoid relegation, I think he did a good job of getting rid of the players that helped get us relegated, got decent money for some of them, and assembled a capable squad for the championship on the proceeds. It's fairly obvious that unchanged this squad will struggle next season so I hope the half wit that owns the club is persuaded to part with some money.

Amazing how they can give him credit for 'a decent profit' but don't criticise him for the appalling results and tactics in the relegation run in.

TBf I think he's been pretty poor for them. Very good PR man though so he's played them and the media beautifully.

He was initially employed to keep them up. He failed.

He then somehow got them to beg him to stay and 'rafalutionise' them. IMHO he's failed on that anarl. He's turned them into a shit premier league team. Hardly a rafalution.

He's now got them practically begging him to stay again. No real reason why he won't fail again next season.

He's a very experienced man playing them like a fiddle.

If a Sunderland manager did that, permenantly threatening to resign, is get a bit cheesed off tbh. Do you want the job or not? Those mugs take it in every time.

TBf keegan did the same - he was for ever resigning or driving to scotch corner never to return.... so it must be something about their fan base that leave them open to this kind of emotional blackmail.
