New Shirt

Am I the only one that thinks these solid one colour backs of striped shirts is off putting to watch? It's like there are 3 different strips on the field when players are facing different directions.
For that reason alone, it should give us a distinct advantage.

The lads will be able to tell which way their team mates are facing just by looking . . . "stripes towards me, solid away from me" will be the new training ground mantra.

Happy days.

It's the same fabric as a normal t shirt.
Dress trousers and jeans are a different material

It's not the same fabric as a normal t shirt though. How many cotton replica football kits are there knocking about?

Just seen it. Awful, although I was expecting pin stripes which would have been worse.
It reminds me of Exeter city. Mickey mouse, and fitting for our current laughing stock status.

Im not sure if there was going to be a new rule for premiership this year that all backs of strips had to be the same solid colour......or did i dream that?:eek::lol::lol:

When you actually see it live, you'll see how bad it really is. The front looks pink from afar and the back a solid red. It doesn't look remotely like a Sunderland shirt.

There's some shite in this thread. It's a strip man ffs.
Most would have whinged over it whatever top was revealed. They're still clearly in "hate SAFC" mode. Just as well it's not compulsory to wear one to the match marra, or in some cases compulsory to even go to the match;)

It's f***ing hideous. Thankfully I'm far too old to be buying replica strips but I would have been well pissed off with that effort 20 years ago.
How old is too old? I know a few in their 80s who do the aways and sport the team's latest strips.

Someone said earlier it was a UEFA rule and Premier League clubs were encouraged to confirm incase of European qualification, but then the Premier League didn't enforce it.

I didn't realise that it was an age restricted product. Maybe it should carry a government health warning as well. CAUTION: Highly addictive, may cause years of misery.

On the bright side, at least we are getting some positive publicity about the release:

(I know, I know Daily Fail will not read etc etc)

Remember the "barcode" kit the mags had with both narrow and wide stripes? Horrendous it was and they had similar dummy-spitting sessions. I vaguely remember they did well and as a result it is fondly remembered by many.

The 80s pin stripe was hated at the time. (Still remember singing "We've got the worst strip in the land" at aways. It's now cool retro. No doubt aided by the current shit as people hark back to (relatively) better times.

Coming back from Croft Racing Circuit last yesterday afternoon I had a chance to get enough signal strength on my phone to get up the new shirt. I thought it would be on the club website but it says to go on the Facebook page. So I did. I must say my first feeling was revulsion. Not revulsion. Too strong a word. But I certainly my first feeling was not pleased I suppose you could say. I was certainly underwhelmed. My first feeling was what a lot of people were thinking. The Butcher's apron, shopping bag, "Bully" from TV show Bullseye. Mainly due to the overwhelming of the stripes. We have to go back to 1887-1889 to see the last shirt which had that many red and white stripes. In fact I have counted the red and white stripes on the new shirt and it comes to about 15 which is about the same as 1888-1889 shirt. Pin stripes don't work for me on football shirts because I think it could be something to do with our eyes and/or brain and it's perceptions. The way they sort things out. The way it orders everything. That many red and white stripes that look like it is all coming at you in one mass hurts the eyes. Four or five red and white stripes can be easily distinguished I think.

That said I do like it myself not only because it harks back to the late 1880's but it does feel like it is a symbolic 'moving on' from the horror show of last year and the last ten. It is the club remodeling itself. And I hope people get used to it. I think in the next few weeks most will not even think about it. Give it a first thought never mind second. The new graphics for the weather forecasts on TV from the Met Office last year was criticized. Now nobody thinks about it I bet. Anyway I think it is better than having static clouds, sun etc. It shows the movement of the weather better. It shows the specific places affected by sun or rain or fog or whatever. Give the new shirt a chance and I am sure it will grow on you and people may start to see good things.
