Success Based on Youth Development

It's too costly to get players from a youth set-up. Have to have loads through and takes time.

Much more realistic to invest in better scouting

You deliberately omitted Valencia though.
When he has coached at Valencia like? Playing twenty odd games in La Liga twenty years ago isn't exactly a foundation for knowledge on the European game, especially not where coaching and scouting is concerned. The game's moved on.

I loved Stefan Schwarz when he was here, and it's great he still has affection for the club, but he hasn't exactly done much in the last 15 years apart from working with kids in Sweden, and we've already signed some of them, and they were crap.

We've nivver managed to this in the 50yrs I've been suffering us so how on earth are we suddenly gonna start at the click of a finger? Are we suddenly gonna discover a rich seam of young players unknown by the mega clubs or are we gonna coach average kids into mega stars?
It's a fuckin pipe dream.
We never do what's "obvious" or "logical"

Exactly. I suspect the OP has something to do with a certain Ajax side that was playing on Wednesday. Trouble is I remember reading about Ajax's youth academy twenty year ago, they're the biggest draw in Holland, and one of the most famous clubs around. And then on Wednesday night you hear about this one and that one that's playing, and all of the big clubs are already waving the cash about ready to sign them.

6 of our Cup Final legends were from our youth team
Contracts were set up to favour clubs in those days. Players then would've chased the money if it'd been as easily done as it is now. Watson Tueart and Horswill were off as soon as European football went.

It seems a lot agree that this is the way to go for us given that we have limited funds and our recruitment in the past has been a disaster even as recently as Moyes and Bain.

Schwarz is the logical choice given his coaching background (Valencia, Helsingborg and Sweden U21's) therefore has a good knowledge of European and youth football, speaks numerous languages which is important given the diverse make up of squads.

He wants the job and if he was a success I'm not so sure he would see it merely as a stepping stone.

Stability works both ways.
Why are you citing Bain?

You adamantly state that he has nothing to do with the football side of things.

He either does or he doesn't.

You can't have it both ways to suit your agenda.

Some clubs have churned out that many English internationals in a season man. We've a shocking return ower the last 50 yrs from the youth set up.

County Durham should be ours, might level things up a bit, let the cockneys fight over different sections of London etc
It's been ower 20 yrs since the NE had a disproportional number of pros in the game. It's now London that churns em out disproportionally in comparison with its % of the population.

Not sure which clubs you are referring to, but if you play for the top teams and get one first team game, then England is the next step regardless of how shit you are, its part of the FA rules

 I totally agree and isn't schwarz an agent or is that old news. However, who have you put your support behind? Who do you want to take over? No ones good enough

How many of our youth products have been truly comfortable in top flight in the last 50ish years?
Todd, Tueart, Monty, Venison, Bridges, Gray, Henderson, Rowell, Pickford.
Possibly Wyle, Suggett, Arnott, Elliott, Pickering, Kerr, Hughes.
Stronach, Smith, Park, Brady were injured before we found out.

Help me out here people........

Thats actually better than I thought, how many clubs have bettered that? Boro had a name for producing kids a few years ago, Man U had a great crop a few years ago, which clubs produce the most? Crewe? Is there a league table anywhere

I definitely agree with the idea that this is the way forward but we should be aiming to recruit probably 3 new backroom staff to build a team of coaches to take the young players from 16/17 up into the first team.

a top academy director to organise the whole process including scouting and recruitment of youngsters
a top U18/U23 coach (Stockdale may be up to this)
a manager who ideally has a proven track record integrating young players into first teams

You could add both McCartney and Colback to the list somewhere.

I said he shouldn't have anything to do with on field activities. He has conceded as much himself by consulting with Walter Smith. The reason he is cited in conjunction with Moyes is because he steadfastly backed him when a blind man on a galloping horse could see he was buying cronies to strengthen his position and not the team. This on top of his comments that we must make a profit on players more often. how many of his and Davys buys will we make a profit on?
