Elite Dangerous

30,000 > 40

;)

 I don't really know what that means but I assume it means I'm wrong and the graphics are better on ED?

Star Citizen looks great from the footage I've seen, especially when landing on planets and going out to investigate. The planet landing on ED doesn't look great from the videos I've seen, although I haven't had the opportunity to do it myself yet.

It's how much it costs

30 grand vs 40 quid

Aaaaah gotcha ;)

I'd realised the deluxe pack was only around £5 more that the standard after purchasing it. I contacted Microsoft and they gave me a refund allowing me to get the deluxe edition, no problem whatsoever. All done over a chat box, fantastic service.

Just go within a few hundred feet, and it'll scan automatically. Will tell you "scanning," then hopefully "wanted" in the square on the left.
Just don't attack until you see "wanted" though, otherwise you're the bad guy, and get the shit shot out of you
Only happened to me fifty or sixty times
Just an addition to this: automatic close-range scanning will only show you if the target is Wanted in the system you are currently in and you only get the bounty for that particular system. Buy a Kill Warrent Scanner and you can manually scan each target ( assign the KWS to a seperate fire group) and it will show all bounties that are active for all systems. Vastly increases yor payout.

I have a bounty in Brani after accidentally hitting a fed ship

I can't go back for a week. Bit extreme.

Any other similar systems to the one in the video above where you can take out bounties with the help of the fed ships?

Can you go into a bit more detail about the fire group system? I haven't got a clue how it works.

I can only speak about how it works on a PC not an Xbox but in your right-hand panel you can assign different weapons or modules to different fire groups (up to 6 different groups iirc.)

For example, on fire group 1 I have the right trigger assigned to Advanced Scanner and the left trigger assigned to the KWS. This way as soon as I drop out of FSD near a star I can immediately scan the system, supercruise to a CNB or RES and then use the KWS on targets without having to deploy weapons.

I then switch to fire group 2 which has lasers mapped to the right trigger and multi-cannons to the left trigger. Deploy hardpoints and start firing. :D

It's the same on Xbox. All configured in the rh panel.

I've got all my lasers on the primary and my kill warrant scanner on the secondary.

I've always wondered how you manage all the ship functions on an Xbox. I use an Xbox 360 controller with my PC but still need a keyboard to map things like landing gear and FSD jumps, not to mention things like chaff, heat sinks, shield cell banks etc.

It's all done with button combos. Press and hold 'A' button and then a direction on the dpad. Down drops landing gear, up deploys cargo scoop etc. There's a load of functions mapped to the b, c, d buttons too. Fire groups are cycled with A and the shoulder buttons iirc

Sounds complicated, but a context menu comes up when you press the button for so long, which really helps you to learn them.

I did the same. Fitted myself up with a fuel scoop, and went to the empire. Orcus I think it was

I f***ing want one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it worth recruiting crew members?

What outfitting (in particular weapons) do people recommend?
I haven't tried multi-crewing yet.

As to weapons: the rule of thumb is that burst lasers are better than pulse and beams are better than burst for damage per second. The downside is that the more dps the more power they draw and tbe more likely they are to overheat and cut out.

I always carry multi-cannons to take down hulls after lasers have dropped the shields. Cannons pack more punch but the shells travel slower so you're more likely to miss small, agile targets.

Plasma cannons deal a huge amount of dps but be prepared to miss with most shots. They also only come with fixed targeting so it may be a better idea to use a rail gun as the shells travel at hyper velocity so if you pull the trigger with a target in your cross hairs you'll hit it.

I never use fixed targeting if I can avoid it - the exception being if I'm using my Corvette to take out large ships like Anacondas. Gimballed weapons are great if your flying skills are a bit below par as you generally just have to get your target roughly in your sights. Turretted weapons are great as you can fire at targets behind you - very useful if you are in a big ship being targetted by smaller, more agile enemies.

Loadout on my Corvette is:
Huge (x2) 4A/G multi-cannon
Large (x1) 3D/T beam laser
Medium (x2) 2E/T beam laser
Small (x2) 1F/T beam laser

Thanks. Got any recommendations of other must have upgrades?

Most upgrades are dependent on the activity you choose and the ship you are flying. In all the ships I have had the ever-present is a chaff launcher. It only works against gimbals and turrets though. For mid to large ships I always pack hull reinforcement packages and shield cell banks. Also, when you can afford it switch your hull to military grade composites.

If you're planning on mining consider a collection limpet controller as it can save a lot of time picking up the bits of asteroid. Just remember you have to buy the limpets as ammo before you set off or you'll be as red faced as I was on my first trip out.

For going after named bounties you'll need a Frame Shift Interdictor and a Frame Shift Scanner.

When taking on wings ALWAYS take out the smallest ships first. 2 Vipers up your arse will shred you before you get their Python wingman for example.

Can't think of much else atm but I'll add more tips if I think of them.

Almost forgot- as well as chaff I always install point defence to take out incoming missiles.

Oh... an important one:

When using a fuel scoop there are only some types of star which are scoopable. Just remember KGB FOAM and you can't go wrong. This means K type, G type, B type (etc) stars can be used to refuel but any star not on that list can't.

If you have space in your internal compartments its worthwhile considering an extra fuel tank, especially if your exploring. Also, when exploring, take an automatic field maintainance unit with you as fuel-scooping gradually degrades your hull integrity.

Half way to my vulture. I'm about 10million in the bank, and got a pumped up Viper.

Smashing out about a million an hour in HighRes sites (empire again) I'm a load more controlled now, and watching what's going on around me, rather than piling in like an excited two year old :)

Getting canny at the combat, but feeling like I need to learn the fancy moves with flight assist off. Any decent guides/YouTube links knocking about? Any of you experienced lads turn it on/off during dogfights?

I turned flight assist off once and spent the next ten minutes tumbling and spinning uncontrolably.
