Fish Shop Friday Thread #3

I can confirm the chippe at Captain Stirling on the Stirling Highway is shut after a wasted trip there today.

Last night we had delivered from Karl's: one cod lot for our lass, and as I was feeling in the mood for some filth food, a large mixed kebab (doner and chicken tikka) for me. I didn't get the chance to photograph the cod lot as our lass tore into it as soon as it arrived. She couldn't eat all the huge fish so I finished it for her and it was excellent. Beautiful fish with a lovely crispy batter that didn't have the usual layer of stodge between the fried batter and the fish. 8.5 out of 10. Chips were tasty but a little on the dry side with some sharp ends, we like our chips waxy and floppy.

The large kebab was wrongly advertised. It should have said "huge mixed kebab" as the large polystyrene tin that the meat came in was so full that it would not close and the meat was being held down by a substantial layer of foil. I only ate half of it, with the half-portion of chips that our lass had left in the box. I've never had chip shop chicken tikka before and was highly sceptical, but it turned out to be delicious. And full of chicken, and tikka! The doner meat was, well, doner meat, and par for the course, greasy but tasty. The remains are lurking in the fridge now, together with the untouched carton of salad. The chile sauce and extra garlic sauce were the usual stuff.

All in all a very enjoyable takeaway (delivered from Boldon Colliery to Seaburn Dene for £2). Will use again.

Edited to add, we ordered this through Just Eat at approximately 6.40 pm, and it was delivered about 25 minutes later.

Haven't read all 26 pages like, but has anyone tried that new place down the East end, East End Chippy? Heard good things on Facebook

Tried here last week, really nice. Looks like going to start doing kebabs and pizzas etc so think the quality might be effected then.
Really good portions though

I'll give this review a scratastic 0/10 for all the reasons above.

It is about time the government brought in time rules that allow chippys to only open on Fridays and Bank holidays imo. Exceptions for ones with 200 metres of a beach during the summer.
