Just bought it, first imprssions are good.

Nope. Been farting about running little missions and got up to 400k money. Then found this

What sort of missions mate?

It's taken me 3 attempts just to land my ship in a docking station

Practice makes perfect with the landings. Second nature now, buzz in at nigh on top speed. You can buy docking computers that does it for you, but it's good flying practice tbh

I just started with the data delivery missions, but going to the RES sites makes good money.

Just bought a fuel scoop. Is it worth it? I fully expect to crash into a sun on my very first attempt at refueling

Imperative bit of kit for exploring, if you're operating in and around the bubble it's just taking space and slowing you down IMO.

Anyway, if anyone's wanting to rank up fast with the empire, then Aditi and neighbouring Synuefe systems are currently at outbreak state (,civil war). Get yourself down there for some major credits.

What does that mean mate? I'm still using the default ship, I doubt I'd last long in a scrap.

I came across a red sun earlier on. I hardly got close to it and it over-heated my ship, with it being red does it mean it's hotter than a standard sun?

All the known space around Sol (our home system) that has been terraforming and/or has functioning planets and/or spacestations is known as 'The bubble' in the game. If you go to galaxy map, then look for the powerplay option, you'll see a load of different coloured bubbles forming another, bigger, bubble. That's how far humans have colonised in the game.

There are other systems outside these that are colonised, but aren't actually part of 'human space' yet.

It's all very confusing and a lot to take in.

Search on tinterwebz for Elite lore, it'll explain a lot more than i can mate.

If i can help with out else, feel free to ask.

Stars are different coloured depending on how old they are. A red star is not as old as our star (the sun) and will eventually grow to that size giving out the same heat and what not.

Again. Whole load of science to do with this.

Reddit is your friend homie.

Cheers. With me just starting out, would you just recommend that I do delivery missions for now? What upgrades should I begin to invest in? Also, can you get insurance on your default ship (for upgrades) or does it not matter?

Are their real life players in the solo game? Or only in open play?

Also, if you accept a mining mission say to mine x3 cobalt, can you just buy 3 units using the commodities market?

1. Keep Ur sidewinder, buy gimballed pulse lasers (so you don't have to aim) and travel to a Nav beacons. Scan ships and wait... If they show up as wanted shoot at them but only if they are classed as harmless or mostly harmless. Once you have enough creds, buy a viper or cobra, rinse and repeat until Ur comfortable and then look at trading and missions. Insurance goes alongside whatever upgrades u make and will be listed in your right tab screen (hold X and press right on dpad).

2. Only AI in solo, it's best to get used to things in solo, but honestly, when u do play in open, most people aren't dicks and will let you go, especially in 'beginner' ships. Once you start advancing though, pirate players will target you for cargo. Or occasionally you will get some nobba who'll attack or interdict you anyway.

3. Mining missions MUST be mined.

You Xbox or PC?

Take the basic starter ship to the resource extraction sites. Let your ship scan, and shoot what the police are shooting. That video that was posted earlier sums it up brilliantly. Great way to make money in the beginning, and risk free.

Thanks.

Would I be right in thinking my lasers are already gimballed? It just says class 1; 1G pulse laser (loaned) and then directly underneath it says "gimballed".

I'm on xbox mate.

How do you scan?

Just go within a few hundred feet, and it'll scan automatically. Will tell you "scanning," then hopefully "wanted" in the square on the left.
Just don't attack until you see "wanted" though, otherwise you're the bad guy, and get the shit shot out of you
Only happened to me fifty or sixty times

I'm on Xbox too daveftm1972

Just flown back from empire space to haxel port and I've just got myself into a tooled up viper. Just had a quick go, and it's like shit off shovel.

Dormant bounty expires in Brani tomorrow, going to go and pick some fights

What's that mate? I already have a 29k legacy fine

My status changed to wanted after I mistakenly shot at the plod. I think you get ten minutes or so to pay the fine, but I got cut to shreds off five of them.

Jumping back into the same system, and the police turned on me again, and the dormant bounty reset to 7 days again. Apparently, it times out after a week. So I fucked off to the empire to carry on building the money up.

I reckon your legacy fines need paying off before they turn into a bounty? Are they counting down? Have a look when you're docked under contacts I think. Any of the other lads know on here?

Not my video (I'm on PC not Xbox) but the Thargoids have been found!

Class man.

Getting right into it now like. Been reading up about the Colonia initiative, and people travelling for weeks for 22k Ly just to get there

Took my new viper bounty hunting and got about 4 mill in bounty, then popped a copper by mistake again. Thought I was fucked, but my god this thing is fast. Outran about 8 police, then jumped to the nearest proper station.

Silent running on, and docked at full speed, then cleared the fine.

I am utterly, totally, head over heels hooked

Be prepared for Colonia mind. It takes a LONG time. I have an Asp Explorer that jumps 35LY per jump, refuels fully in about 4 seconds.... to go from Nanomam - Colonia - Sag A - Eravate it took me from September 17th last year until last Sunday. Admittedly I did a LOT of exploration and gathered about 60mil worth of data, but it's still a grind!

Currently out in Aditi, grinding for Empire ranks. Went from Master to Squire in 2 nights and made about 20mil. Gona head over to Maia for the CG.

I have both a viper and a cobra, and although most people love the cobra, i MUCH prefer the viper. Brilliant little ship. So brilliant i have a mk III and a mk IV!
