I remember my parents playing The Ivy League, Wayne Fontana, The Beatles and hearing God Only Knows when I was about six.
How I loved that song. So, I,listened to the Beach Boys as a kid. I had an ear for a tune and Eleanor Rigby left a mark on me.
The first single I bought was I will Survive by The Arrival. The first album I bought was either Who's Next or Deja Vu by CSN and Y.Aladdin Sane followed.
At Grammar school everyone loved Rory Gallagher, ELP, Yes, not me. I loved The Who, but also 10 cc and Motown. I had the pish took out of me cos I,liked soul music. I discovered The Four Tops.
I was listening to Black Sabbath or TYA one night and the Detroit Spinners the next night.
Then I heard Hall and Oates. Aural Perfection. I was hooked on them, blue eyed soul. Bring on Boz Scaggs and early Robert Palmer. I got into Steely Dan and The Doobie Brothers and The Average White Band.
Teddy Prendergrass followed.
Tears For Fears. Wow. What a band. Roland Orzabal, an underrated genius. Still love them.
I am now old and cannot be bothered to seek out new music. Love America, Hall and Oates, Fleet Foxes.
My kids keep making me listen to their stuff and I love Empire Of The Sun.
That!s my music story, don't take away the music !!!!
