Just as relevant when you consider how disproportionate his sentence is compared to similar cases in Britain. Women shagging kids and getting suspended sentences. Didn't that teacher not shag one of her kids 50 times and got pregnant but only got a suspended sentence?

Yes I agree. I think that in any sentence you have to ask what the purpose of the sentence is. A lot of the people who suggest his sentence was too much do so because they think "he didn't really do anything *that* bad", or something similar. I disagree with that, in the sense that I think there's a line and he clearly went well over it. What I don't understand, though, is why he required so long in custody. Surely the judge could have imposed a sentence that made him sign the sex offenders register, have no unsupervised contact with kids, monitor his internet, require him to seek sex therapy etc. and you could have prevented him from reoffending without the silly cost to the state of him spending a minimum of three years in prison. It does feel a bit like he was made an example of. I expected him to get 2 years or so - probably suspended.

Literally the only thing we've had going for us as a club in the last ten years is beating them lot. Without him that doesn't happen

Yes I agree. The justice system, though, rightly or wrongly (wrongly IMO) treats sex offences by women completely differently to those by men. That's a reflection of the beliefs of wider society. You see it on here a lot when threads about noncey females come up - "I'm jealous of the lad who had sex with her" etc. He was clearly given a sentence right at the absolute top end of the tariff, presumably to be made an example of.

Didn't say that did I? I was responding to the claim he took the piss out of the club when the reality is he's solely responsible for some of the best days of my life
 
Different laws I suppose, but just been reading about a Dutch International volleyball player who corresponded with a 12 year old English girl on Facebook. He stayed with her in a stairwell one night then raped her in her own home the next day. Tried by an English court and got 4 years, which he was allowed to serve in Holland and is about to get released after one year.

He's been made an example of. At the end of the day, the judge has the power to do pretty much whatever they want, in accordance with precedents.

I also thought he would end up with a suspended sentence on top of having to pay a huge compensation to the girl.
