nintendo Switch

Me, or to be exact, my daughter. She just dragged me through to the Arnison for the midnight launch at Smyths. I'm so excited, especially as I have to sit on the doorstep all day until the postman brings her Zelda game, and two amiibos. What a time to be alive!

indeed mate, how old is said daughter just mine is 7 ive tried getting her into games XBOX one and PS4 but theres not much that interests her am hoping the switch might be different

I picked up my brothers at game in Sunderland at midnight. He's autistic and has been getting very excited for the Zelda game all week.

He's insisted on downloading the game from the store rather than just buy the cartridge (he obviously has his reasons). In 2.5 hours he's got a quarter of the file at best. Guess I'm in for a long night, thank god I booked the day off work tomorrow.

Looks like a decent system, screen roughly iPad mini size. The controllers are tiny though, even in my Trump hands. Bomberman is just like I remember it.

My Younger Brother's got Asperger's, waiting for delivery from DPD this Afternoon, already got Zelda Limited Edition from Grainger this morning and have to take it to him in Middlesbrough Tonight. Can't wait to see his face when he gets it.

I bet he was over the moon.

The game eventually downloaded for him about 7 this morning, by this point I'd collapsed in the corner to be awoken and asked if I he could use my credit card to buy a season pass.

Played it pretty much all day and in my mind it's worth every penny to see him genuinely happy.

He was absolutely buzzing when he lifted the switch up and saw the limited edition, looked like he did when he got his Wii for Christmas years ago.

Old PS4 with blue disc cover, 2tb drive and a bit of dust all packed up ready for trade in

Thank god I did this! I've spent the last year trying to find the dongle for my Sony Gold headphones..it was in that box :oops:

Bought

Got Zelda
A neon switch and a pro controller.
Report please

Here is a report from my daughter.

BotW is absolutely enormous compared to previous open world Zelda games. I was concerned the world might just be one large, blank field but that isn't the case. I've been playing at least 6 hours and it's only just taught me how to fight by sidestepping etc. I can see this lasting me till the next one comes out! Some people have complained that the combat is too simplistic, and up till now I might have agreed. That was until I got my backside handed to me by the ramped up difficulty level - I definitely need to change technique from just button mashing!

I've died more times already than I normally would in the entire game, but that's actually a good thing. It doesn't hold your hand in terms of finding things, you have to go out and look for them - and there's plenty other hidden stuff to find along the way. The more observant you are, the more you'll see. Or you could rush through and miss everything that's not absolutely essential to the plot. After completing the first section of the game you can go straight to the final boss if you want to, but I guarantee you'll lose!

The one thing that has had me frustrated so far was the explanations given for plot necessary controls. I could not figure out what I was supposed to do to use the scope, but eventually figured out that you can depress the right hand stick. It's easy when you know how! There are more controls than normal in a Zelda game, which may be more on a par with other open world games. Once you get them in your head it's fine.

I'm loving the background sound effects, there's a lot of detail there. This is not a game to play on mute. The graphics are also very detailed, though not the attempted photo realism of other publishers. I love it.

Report please

It's a very very well made and designed console. Feels lovely. The pro controller is excellent, even the Joycons are a lot nicer than I expected.

The graphics are obviously a massive step down from Horizon for example, but Zelda is so so good. Just little details that you don't get in other developers games.

Overall, a decent start

On reflection I don't think the Switch is a good idea just yet. Although you have the novelty games on the Switch cartridge, they can soon get boring. As well as that the majority of games announced so far are probably too difficult for her, and the virtual console is not yet available.

If I were you, I would buy a Wii U. You can pick one up very cheaply, especially right now, secondhand games are available in most game shops and CEX etc. You also have access to a huge back catalogue on the virtual console. So for me, I would grab a Wii U.
