"On his fifth birthday his mam bought him a Sunderland scarf, and it was his pride and joy, old it may have been, faded and full of holes, but loved and cherished it certainly was, and today Sean takes it with him as he makes his final journey. "

that was the bit that got me to the onion point.
RIP marra

And rest well, I think our beloved team is in safe hands.

Caught some of this post on Skunkers! As a mag I can honestly say that I've never read a thread like it.Lappy RIP matey.

Hi wonderful cyber community! - just wanted to let you guys know that in addition to the fantastic amount raised by this board for the MacMillan nurses, a further £200 was raised at Sean's funeral in lieu of flowers and is to go to St Oswald's Hospice in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne.

We (Sean's family) are also looking into having a memorial evening with his musician friends to celebrate Sean's life and raise further funds for a cancer related charity. If this comes off I'll post details on this board if that's OK.

In line with Sean's wishes, we also plan to produce, and hopefully publish, an anthology of Sean's song lyrics. He also had his own SAFC database which he spent hundreds of hours maintaining and which was discussed briefly in another thread. We've yet to consider what to do with this in terms of what Sean would have wanted, but again I will let SMB members know what we decide.

Lisa (hello luv) has already expressed our overwhelming gratitude to this board and though I can see Sean raising his eyes to the sky and cursing his bloody soppy sisters - I feel the need to keep saying it....So thank you, thank you, you generous and kind folk

Just a thought - but maybe there is some value in this and could go the charity?

Don't let MBH have it;)

Bloody hell. I'm not really an emotional person, but I don't mind admitting that I have tears in my eyes after reading most of this. Especially the bit about Sean's scarf.
I bet he was a great man to know. R.I.P.

I'd just like to echo the thoughts on this thread. Lappy was a real character on this board and he'll be sorely missed. It's great to see so much positive stuff coming from his passing.

I post this request with trepidation because I realise that one of the benefits of the internet forum is the anonymity it affords, but I'll do it all the same.

I mentioned in the post that announced Lap's passing away that I have always wondered what he looked like: would it be tasteless to ask one of his family to post a picture of him? I would prefer to remember him as he was than as his avatar of the lead character from Eraserhead.

If this request causes offence to anyone I should like to apologise for my forwardness.

No offence taken Scimmy, infact its a wonderful legacy that so many people are genuinely interested in knowing more about him.

I'll speak to the rest of our family about how they feel re posting a photo of him.

I hope nobody will take offence at this suggestion. If the database is as good as I believe it to be there is only one place for it and in my opinion it should be with someone who can present it as a saleable commodity (perhaps with the proceeds going to Hospice?) and my suggestion then is to see if Rob Mason would like to take it on.

thx Tony - that is what I clumsily meant earlier

Had a chat with Sean's mam about posting his picture and we have decided that in this context it is probably more appropriate for him to be remembered on the SMB board by his avatar. We think it would be a fitting close to this wonderful thread.

So.....
