No one sets the rules. As someone said, Buffon went for £35m over 15 years ago. With the money flying around at the moment we should be asking for daft money. We signed Ndong for £16m.

Exactly. He could be there for the rest of his career.

Mignolet is one of the most expensive goalkeepers ever and he only cost £9m.

20m is shite. Precisely why we shouldn't be selling him yet, because we're not close to getting optimum price yet. We can't lose a talent like this on the cheap if we do it means Short's running of the club is having a direct effect on a our youth system. Selling our youngsters on the cheap is unacceptable and poor business. Would be the act of a desperate man who doesn't know what he's doing imo.

Aye £20m for a novice keeper, he'd become the 2nd most expensive keeper in the world

You can't call Pickford a novice keeper considering the season he's having and the fact he's been called up for England a few times now. I can't understand why a Sunderland supporter would try and defend what really is pretty poor fee for the hottest goalkeeping prospect in the PL at the moment.

If true a great deal for us. For the money this would free up and given Mannone isn't far off Pickford IMO this might be our best chance of avoiding the drop as it's clear we must invest in our outfield players to stand a chance.

Pickford has also only had a few months at the top. It's possible we've seen the best of him and he fades away. Cashing in now makes sense.

Exactly, we might as well hold onto him.

The thing is, you actually get your money's worth with a decent keeper, as they usually play for longer too.

Assuming Buffon has been on 100k a week (average) throughout his time at Juve, that's £78m just in wages, hoy in the transfer fee on top and it's over £100m all in for the transfer. Madness really isn't it when you break it down.

It might not even be reinvested if Short wishes to sell. £20m is poor imo.

You need your f***ing head testing if you think we should sell for 20 million like, sorry.

Where does Stones stand in the all time expensive defenders? Probably near the top.
This for me. Whoever signs him will get 15 years out of him. 10-11 years of which he ll be in his prime. 20 million is pittance in today's game. Add 10 million on to that because of him being homegrown then you are getting closer to what we should be getting.

He won't on average have been on £100k though. But I get your point.
