The massive competition teams pulled out of half way through Hamburg withdrew in the quarter finals  The Turkish side they were going to play Goztepe got a bye to the Semi Final and lost 8-1 on agg to Ujpest
proper trophy then , won better Sunday league cups

I did for this very reason, when you inform a mag that you have never heard of the team they beat, that Uefa don't recognise it and they didn't qualify and it doesn't count as a major trophy, they are usually a bit unhappy like.

I think they got in because they were 10th or something. Mad shit

So it's the equivalent to our glorious victory in the Albufera Cup under Keane. Can't wait to read about Nyrons winner in the Echos 12 page pull out. I will be telling the tail around the fireplace to my grand children in years to come.

Everyone's second team in Hungary too..

"Budapest and all Hungary has already fallen for the mighty Magpies who outfought 63 other clubs for the right to receive the Fairs Cup from the hands"

Can anyone please clarify what the prerequisites were to qualify for this competition ?

They only qualified because there was a rule that not more than 2 teams from the same city could take part.
That was Everton and Liverpool, 1 dropped out so they stuck a n other in.

Fairs cup was a Euro cheapy cup in those days worth nothing.

I haven't clicked on the link cos I'm tired of the stench of desperation seeping out of the cess pit which calls itself Newcastle! Pathetic

GO on man have a click...you know that you want too really. Its great in their wonderful world of success.

Major gong

Didn't they only get in because you could only have one entrant per city?
Yes, and even that only happened because Man City qualified for the European Cup as Champions and United as holders, otherwise one would have been in the Fairs Cup. West Brom (8th) qualified for the Cup Winners Cup, and Leeds, Liverpool and Chelsea qualified for the Fairs Cup so Everton (5th), Spurs (7th) and Arsenal (9th) missed out under the one city, one club rule.

So important that until 1971 uefa do not allow a club to claim it as a european honour. Used to be on the uefa website....if someone would want to go hunting for it again.
