Newcastle Manager Situation

...not unless he can play centre half.

As prev said you cannot polish a turd and he has always had top quality players at his disposal.

Obvs anyone better than Tufty but would have been more worried had they appointed Moyes or Pearson as feel they are more suited to an intense relegation battle.

At least we'll get to know how to pronounce 52,000 screaming jawdees in Spanish ;)

From our point of view...

Cons:
- You'd think the players would have more respect for Benitez than Tufty - he has just come from Real Madrid after all
- Won't give a shit about appeasing the players, will be prepared to shake things up, leave people out etc which may be exactly what they need
- Plenty of Premier League experience
- Possible new manager bounce (seems to happen to teams whoever they appoint)

Pros:
- His teams have never played good football. I often think that teams most likely to avoid relegation are ones that go for it and try and win games (2 wins is better than 5 draws), which is basically what we did with Di Canio and Adovcaat. This isn't, never has been and never will be Rafa's style - he'll try and get them organised, set up defensively and work from there. Could work, could backfire especially as...
- They don't have the players to play that style of football. Their defence is shit and won't improve that much in 10 games. Might even stifle some of their more creative players (they can look half decent when they attack teams - won't be as much of that under Rafa)
- He's hardly got any time to work with the players. I always think Benitez is the type of manager who needs a pre-season to really get his ideas across, get them organised etc. As I say, 2 months isn't much time to turn Coco and "Tayls" into solid defenders. He doesn't strike me as an instant impact "fire fighter" type that may be more useful in a relegation battle. Long term he could be decent for them but it's all about the next 10 games.

Overall, I'm 50/50. My main worry is that he surely can't be as bad as Tufty and that might be enough for them to stay up.

This is exactly our problem, worrying about other teams. We'll be above them going into the derby, have won 6 in a row and they are at home with a new manager.

Pressure is still on them.

Do you think deranged people are attracted to NUFC or do they become that way once they arrive?

It's not surprising the Swansea players couldn't wait to see the back of this knacker.

I've let Newcastle United down ......
........... but players must come to the forefront like I do

"The manager put a lot of faith in me and I adore him for that. There are two types of players, those who hide and those who come to the forefront."

"The way I am I come to the forefront. Everyone needs to be like that."

That board at their training ground is doing my head in. There's no apostrophe in photos.

Fair play to him. He could have just sent his Minions.

What a mess. Shearer was right. They have the league leaders on Monday, yet still no mention of mclarens sacking. Or for that matter a vote of confidence :)
