Newcastle Manager Situation

The journalists have shown themselves up this week.

It's quite obvious he's going to get the sack so they're all tweeting to make themselves look more ITK than the next journalist when in all honesty they know fuck all

Thing is though, everyone had just 'decided' that McClaren was going to get the sack after Bournemouth, although the club said nothing and it was just as if all of the press and fans alike had decided that because they didn't want him in charge anymore so that was it, goodbye Steve.

That loudmouth balloon on Radio Newcastle Mick Lowes even described his position as 'untenable' - he's not doing a good job but is his position untenable? and who are you to decide that? He was even claiming this morning that Newcastle are 'unique' to other football clubs as they don't sack a manager, appoint a caretaker, then search for a new manager, no, they leave the present incumbent in the job while they sound out someone else - and he's saying this as if this makes them better than everyone else, like they have some sort of duty of care to the best fans in the world. When in reality they haven't said anything about the position either way, and it's just another blowing smoke up the fans collective arses spin to cover the fact that everyone seems to have hung McClaren out to dry yet the club haven't, and if they still don't, then some reporters and pundits are going to look a little bit foolish.

On the back of his public sacking by the fans, everyone like you say, have been racing to break the news of the next manager and be first to do - which has led to a lot of shots in the dark and some very premature reports. Mike Ashley normally keeps his cards close to his overly large chest, and I'm not sure that the journalists know very much about what is happening. They've been contradicting each other and jumping the gun with speculation reported as fact. The journalists who have already made tits of themselves are now trying even harder to come up with any sort of news to prove themselves to still be ITK about what's going on.

I'm not so sure that McClaren will be gone before the Leicester game, but the Benitez rumours are gathering pace and although there's nothing concrete yet it does tend to be no smoke without fire in these situations. It'll be a good appointment for Newcastle should it come off, after all it can't really be much worse, and one which will obviously have some sort of bearing on our own survival hopes - but I'm going to wait until someone who actually knows something makes an announcement before I even start thinking about pissing my pants just yet.

i have this nagging doubt that benitez is just stringing them along getting his name out there.... might be wrong
if i'm not there is going to be hell on

Much rather Benitez got the job than Moyes mind. Not convinced he's as good as people think he is. A few cup wins after spending a fortune pretty much everywhere he's been and underperforming in the league.
It's not this I worry about. It's the new manager bounce which could save them instead of us. It won't matter to us if he can't sustain it next season, if we're languishing in the Championship.

Our lass just said that!

Whatever the case, Newcastle are playing a very dangerous game ..... imagine the dressing room mood if they go into the derby with McClaren after this.

Completely agree.

It could certainly be to smoke out interest from clubs for the summer

Not just the dressing room, imagine the stadium

He will possibly have Townsend and Coloccini back who, although they aren't world beaters. will make them stronger than what they were v Bournemouth.

It's a really difficult one to call for me on how he will do, he is used to working with very good quality players and for teams who are in the top half of their leagues so he's a bit of a fish out of water if he takes this job. It's a bit like asking Da Vinci to paint the Mona Lisa on tracing paper using potatoes and 4 colours of kiddies paint, you just don't know what to expect.

I don't know the ins and outs of Benitez's thinking but I'd have thought he would be the type of person that wouldn't even risk a relegation on his CV.

If he waited a few months he could arguably get a better job and add to his medal collection.

look outs possible... i'm open minded
benitez could have a huge money offer from them

Im starting to think we might be seeing some 'stepped aside' posts in the not too distant future.

Other than hard cash, not many people, including mag pundits, can see why any manager worth his salt would touch them in their current state on and off the pitch. They found it hard enough to bag SM last time out, so its going to have to be a very special offer for a big name manager to sign for them.

The silence has been deafening, and any of the media outlets reporting seem to be jumping the gun a little.
